You’ll help your teams turn competing priorities into clear commitments while strengthening engineering practices, Agile delivery, and responsible adoption of AI. While you won’t spend every day writing code, your software engineering background will enable you to engage deeply with developers, troubleshoot complex issues, and make informed technical decisions. Your leadership will directly influence the experiences BECU members and employees rely on while giving you meaningful exposure to senior technology leaders and high-profile transformation work.

To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, SC, NC, CA or VA. WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Guide High-Impact Initiatives:  You’ll step into highly visible work, including Credit Line Increase, Retail MAX, consumer and small and medium business digital and retail origination, while contributing to the planning and structure of future large LPP initiatives.
  • Lead and Grow Engineering Talent:  You’ll coach, mentor, train, and develop team members while setting clear expectations and supporting performance. You’ll foster an environment where quality, agility, continuous learning, and professional growth are part of how the team operates.
  • Stay Technically Connected:  You’ll maintain the technical credibility to engage with developers on architecture, APIs, integrations, application design, and code-level issues. When complex problems emerge, you’ll be comfortable digging in, helping triage issues, and guiding the team toward solutions.
  • Create Clarity and Focus:  You’ll navigate an environment where demand can exceed available capacity, translating competing priorities into realistic commitments and helping protect Agile/Scrum teams from unnecessary disruption.
  • Advance Engineering Practices:  You’ll improve practices throughout the software development lifecycle, strengthening quality, coding and assurance practices, automation, CI/CD, controls, incident management, and continuous delivery.
  • Drive Modernization and Innovation:  You’ll maintain expertise in modern and emerging technologies and identify solutions that advance business objectives across Cloud, Data, API, DevOps, and modern architecture. You’ll also help your team meaningfully adopt AI and connect that adoption to team objectives and key results.
  • Shape Technology Roadmaps:  You’ll support technology platforms and partner with business and product leaders to co-create roadmaps aligned to strategic, operational, and tactical goals. You’ll contribute technology expertise to business cases, cost/benefit analyses, RFPs, and project charters where needed.
  • Build Strong Cross-Functional Partnerships:  You’ll work closely with Product, business partners, technology teams, API and data teams, architecture, performance engineering, vendors, and other stakeholders to align technical execution with business outcomes.
  • Communicate with Confidence:  You’ll participate in technology and business governance, planning, and initiative reviews, providing senior leaders with clear updates on delivery, priorities, risks, milestones, and technical context.

This isn’t just about ticking off tasks on a list. It's about making a significant, positive change in BECU’s journey, where your contributions are valued, and your growth is continually fostered.

  • Technical Leadership Without Leaving Engineering Behind:  Lead people and delivery while remaining close enough to architecture, APIs, integrations, and code to influence technical outcomes and solve difficult problems alongside your engineers.
  • A Voice in What Comes Next:  Help shape future LPP origination and member experience work while bringing greater structure, prioritization, and engineering discipline to a growing portfolio.
  • Opportunity to Advance AI Adoption:  Work directly with engineering talent to turn AI from experimentation into practical application, helping teams identify meaningful uses and advance organizational objectives.
  • Broad Collaboration:  Partner across Product, business, Data, APIs, architecture, performance engineering, and external technology resources, giving you a wide view of how enterprise technology comes together.
  • Leadership Through Complexity:  Build your leadership impact by balancing ambitious technology goals with real resource constraints, making thoughtful tradeoffs, and establishing priorities your teams can successfully deliver against.
