OVERVIEW:

As the Manufacturing Engineer, you design, develop and implement process improvements in casting, machining, fabrication, and heavy equipment assembly processes. You help develop the Lean roadmap, strategy, and priority and manage activities for continuous improvement. You are hands on implementing solutions and improvements and leading kaizens. You become a Lean expert and act as the liaison between engineering technical expertise and execution in shop operations. You adhere to and improve EHS processes and procedures and ensure that project milestones/goals are met. You help design manufacturing operations for the future.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible and accountable for leading continuous improvement and efficiencies across the Company’s products, systems, operations and processes
  • Become the recognized multi-site expert in Lean manufacturing methodologies
  • May lead a team of people and have budgetary/cost reporting responsibility
  • Coach and train others
  • May manage personnel tasked with LEAN and CI projects
  • Utilize LEAN methodologies and tools when planning and implementing projects
  • Gather information to evaluate current work processes to determine the optimal flow of product, time requirements, wastes, and costs.
  • Establish work measurement programs and analyze same to develop standards for labor utilization. Conduct time studies to develop and establish standard hour run times and to provide input to establish routings and related cost data or effective cost reductions.
  • Analyze work force utilization, facility layout, operational and financial data such as production costs, value stream maps, and schedules to determine efficient utilization of process, workers, and equipment
  • Support accounting and sales in costing, planning, and the layout of buildings and process flows Assist in the selection, implementation, and testing of new equipment, tooling, and technologies
  • Consult with maintenance vendors or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve equipment maintenance issues
  • Responsible for implementing process changes, equipment layout, or office layout for current process, future process and/or equipment.
  • Confer with vendors to determine product specification and arrange for purchase and installation of equipment, materials, parts, services, and tooling
  • Manage projects to complete on time, to specification, quality, budget, and high safety standards
  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual and determine any reasons for discrepancies and recommend corrective actions
  • Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement
  • Prepare procedures for projects, processes, and programs
  • Participate in regional and international operational excellence meetings and projects as required
  • Responsible for promoting safety and being an active team member of the EHS improvement team development. Strictly follow company safety standards according to company policy and OSHA and state regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering or related degree from four-year college or university; 1+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of Lean Manufacturing experience or coursework
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office including Excel, Teams and PowerPoint, ERP systems, and CAD software such as Auto Cad and Inventor
  • Some experience or with machining and fabricating metal parts preferred
