Leads and builds a 24x7 Engineering Technician organization supporting photonic integrated circuit wafer fabrication, process development, equipment qualification, engineering experiments, and production operations. Responsibilities include hiring, workforce planning, shift scheduling, training, cross-functional prioritization, technical coaching, performance management, and continuous improvement across Fab1 and Fab2 manufacturing activities.
The Engineering Technician Manager is responsible for building, leading, and managing a 24x7 Engineering Technician organization supporting InP Photonic Integrated Circuit wafer fab manufacturing, process development, engineering experiments, equipment qualifications, and production operations. This role will establish a new technician team to support Fab2 qualification and Fab1 volume ramp-up, ensuring the timely execution of engineering and manufacturing priorities.
The successful candidate will work closely with Process, Equipment, Production Operation, Integration and Yield teams to coordinate resources, prioritize activities, develop technical capabilities, and drive operational excellence. This leader will provide both technical guidance and people management to build a highly skilled, flexible, and performance-driven support organization.
- Build, hire, train, and manage a high-performing Engineering Support Technician team to provide 24x7 support for InP PIC wafer manufacturing and process development activities.
- Establish staffing plans, shift schedules; develop and implement technician training to ensure adequate coverage to support Fab2 qualification and Fab1 production ramp-up.
- Coordinate and prioritize daily activities across engineering and production teams to meet business, development, and manufacturing objectives.
- Support engineering experiments, process characterization, metrology and inspection, wafer processing, equipment qualifications, new process introductions and operator training.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, mentoring, and career development support to team members.
- Drive a culture of safety, quality, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor team performance, establish operational metrics, and drive improvements in productivity, cycle time, and execution quality.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related science or engineering discipline. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in semiconductor wafer fabrication, supporting manufacturing, process development, and engineering operations.
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing technical, engineering, or manufacturing support teams in a 24x7 manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in workforce planning, technician development, performance management, and shift-based operations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate across multiple engineering and manufacturing functions in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of SPC, DOE, process qualification, yield improvement methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.
