The Market Operations Senior Analyst will use quantitative reasoning, problem solving, operations research methods, and programming skills to assist the market operations team in hedging strategies (physical and financial products) and optimizing battery energy storage system dispatch across the Key Capture Energy fleet.
Responsibilities may include developing algorithmic hedging and energy trading strategies, strategizing day-to-day power market operations, troubleshooting market operations in real-time, building/editing mathematical models that represent battery energy storage system operation, building reports summarizing performance of trading strategies, and direct analytical or coding projects. The ideal candidate is a create problem solver with the technical skills to independently manage projects from the brainstorm phase through to a final work-product with limited oversight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and maintain algorithmic hedging strategies to support physical BESS operations and maximize portfolio value.
- Lead the build-out of automated power market bidding/trading strategies using Python and SQL and champion new feature development to drive PNL improvements.
- Support the day-to-day management of company assets, including via bid submission, code debugging and on-call responsibilities.
- Understand factors impacting electricity prices and collaborate with the team to improve price forecasts, bidding and hedging models. Development and assess new models as necessary to improve PNL.
- Analyze and manipulate datasets in MS SQL Server. Collaborate with the development team to support the build-out of necessary infrastructure for analytics work.
- Identify gaps in analytical reports and dashboard tools and build new Power BI dashboards that transform data into information that informs market decisions and fills identified needs.
- All other duties as required.
WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of energy industry or analytical experience; IPP or utility experience with a background in hedging physical operations preferred.
- Strong fundamental understanding of daily energy market operations in various jurisdictions.
- Bachelor's degree in: engineering, math, economics, computer science, chemistry, physics, finance, business, or related field; Master's degree preferred
- Interest in clean energy and power markets
- Experience programming in Python or other mathematical programming languages. Exposure to mathematical optimization a plus.
- Experience working with large data sets a plus.
- Very motivated self-starter
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
