Own Bluesky’s narrative across press, social channels, and the broader internet. Create and commission content, build journalist and creator relationships, manage launches and campaigns, support executive speaking opportunities, shape brand voice, lead crisis communications, and coordinate with product, engineering, community, freelancers, creators, and agencies. The role requires strong writing, internet culture fluency, fast execution, and extensive communications or marketing experience.
About Us:
Bluesky's vision is to make social more like the web itself. We're building a social media app, but beyond that, we've created a protocol that supports a broad ecosystem of applications and clients. Imagine a network of applications, from microblogging to photos to video to long-form writing, all interconnected and accessible with a shared identity.
About the Role:
We're looking for a storyteller and creator who can shape how the world sees Bluesky and make stories happen, not just manage them. As the Marketing and Communications, you'll own our narrative, pitch creators and media, make and commission content, run campaigns and launches, and build relationships with journalists and creators. You should be equally comfortable filming something for the feed, ghostwriting a blog post for the CEO, or briefing a reporter on technical infrastructure.
This is a cross-functional role. No task is too small or too large, and you enjoy owning projects from idea to launch.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own Bluesky's story across press, our own channels, and the broader internet
- Make content yourself (posts, video, threads, explainers) and find and work with creators who make it even better
- Source and manage speaking opportunities for leaders: find the conferences, podcasts, and panels that add real value, pitch them in, and prep them so they show up ready
- Proactively pitch stories and co-create ideas with journalists and creators, instead of waiting for inbound
- Build and maintain a wide network of reporters, creators, and community voices, and know which relationships matter most
- Plan and run launches and campaigns for new features and moments on the network
- Shape the Bluesky brand and voice, and keep it consistent across everything we put out
- Spot what's happening on the network and across the internet, and turn it into stories and moments quickly
- Lead comms through hard moments with speed and honesty, and build systems that keep small fires small
- Work closely with product, engineering, and community so what we say matches what we ship
- Manage outside partners: freelancers, creators, and agencies
You might be a good fit if you have:
- 10+ years in communications, marketing, content, or media, ideally in tech or social
- A portfolio of work you made or led: content that traveled, stories you landed, campaigns people talked about
- Real relationships with journalists and creators, and the instinct to DM them with an idea before anyone asks
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the range to shift voice by platform, audience, and moment
- Fluency in internet culture. You understand why things blow up and why most things don't
- Experience in fast, scrappy environments where you shipped quickly and iterated
- Steadiness under pressure, and at least one crisis you've helped navigate
We're especially excited if you:
- Are already familiar with Bluesky, AT Protocol, or the decentralized social landscape
- Have experience working with or writing for developers
- Have led consumer-facing comms teams and are well-versed in crisis comms
If you have a passion for storytelling, understand the market, and have the ability to adapt to the fast-paced world of social media, we'd love to hear from you.
Please include any relevant links in your resume that showcase your writing.
