Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer – Gas and Steam Turbine provides technical engineering support for gas turbine, steam turbine, generator, and associated balance-of-plant mechanical systems. This role supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power generation equipment through troubleshooting, inspection, maintenance strategy development, outage planning, equipment repair oversight, vendor coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives.The position works closely with operations, maintenance, outage planning, reliability, procurement, and external vendors to identify equipment issues, recommend corrective actions, support planned and unplanned outages, and ensure repairs and upgrades meet applicable technical, safety, quality, and performance requirements.
Job Description
- Technical support for the fossil fleet operations and maintenance for rotating equipment
- Perform root cause analysis
- Provide innovative engineering solutions for difficult problems
- Contributes to economic justification/analysis for projects
- Participate in and lead special projects or teams
- Individual contributor in Mechanical Rotating Equipment Engineering
- Provides technical support on a fleetwide basis, specific to turbines
- Maintain effective working relationships. Be able to explain technical information to ensure work/repairs completed correctly.
- Reside within a state that Vistra currently operates power plants or willingness to relocate to TX, IL, OH, PA, MA, NJ, NY, CT, .
- BS or greater in an Engineering discipline
- Licensed Professional Engineer or meets additional years of experience requirements
- Demonstrates and applies knowledge of current and pending regulatory, code and general industry issues to resolve Vistra’s interests.
- Proficient with technical evaluation processes.
- Proficient in fossil, solar, battery, or nuclear plant technologies
- Minimum 8 years' experience in power plant operations / engineering or comparable industries
- Demonstrates application of fundamental scientific principles
- Communication –Must be able to effectively communicate with peers, management and/or represent Vistra’s interests to outside agencies
- Able to execute projects/strategies with some oversight.
- Demonstrated high performer through consecutive evaluations or work history for external candidates.
Pay grade and salary will be determined by education and experience.
