Oceaneering Space Systems (OSS) develops, integrates, and applies new and innovative technologies to meet the challenges of working in space and other harsh environments. We are ideally positioned to meet the growing needs of NASA and the expanding commercial and Department of Defense (DOD) markets.

This position is in Clear Lake, TX and is a hybrid position with 2-3+ days per week in office Flexibility in work schedule may occasionally be required to support NASA EVA Spacewalks.

Responsibilities

Working under limited supervision, the EVA Equipment Sustaining Engineer will perform planning and analysis; support hardware fabrication, refurbishment and testing; develop documentation; and provide real-time input during EVA operations in support of the International Space Station (ISS) program. 

FUNCTIONS

  • Work in a team environment to meet the sustaining engineering needs of the ISS EVA tools and equipment.
  • Analyze EVA tool performance vs. requirements. 
  • Analyze EVA tool anomalies or failures to determine root cause and corrective actions. 
  • Monitor and plan EVA tool use.
  • Develop strategies to maximize EVA tool suite useful life and reliability.
  • Manage production and testing of replacement EVA tool parts and assemblies.
  • Prepare documentation for and present briefings to customers and project management.
  • Provide mission support to teammates supporting the Mission Evaluation Room (MER) during EVAs.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a closely related field from an accredited engineering school and 5+ years direct experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

DESIRED

  • Prior experience with NASA human space flight operations and/or design of space flight equipment. 
  • Real-time operations support experience.
  • Prior experience performing sustaining engineering or maintenance. 
  • Prior experience designing or maintaining textile products. 

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people
