About Aalo Atomics

Aalo Atomics is pioneering a new era in clean energy with factory-fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. Our mission is to make nuclear energy globally accessible, starting with the Aalo-1, a 10 MWe reactor leveraging cutting-edge safety, modularity, and efficiency. Based in Austin, TX, we’re rapidly growing as we work to deploy the world’s first fleet of advanced microreactors. Join us and help revolutionize energy for a sustainable future.

About the role:

As a Mechanical Engineer at Aalo Atomics, you will help design and optimize the advanced production lines that build our modular nuclear reactors. You will work hands-on in the factory alongside technicians, welders, and other engineers to bring cutting-edge nuclear systems to life. This role blends mechanical design, process development, creative problem-solving, and direct build support to achieve high-rate, reliable, and efficient manufacturing for our DOE experimental reactor modules.

Responsibilities:
  • Question requirements placed on our systems, designs, processes etc
  • Design components, systems, and structures to meet requirements
  • Develop and optimize repeatable, fabrication processes for reactor components
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers to improve product manufacturability
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement
  • Create detailed work instructions and build documentation
  • Integrate electrical, piping, and structural components with innovative manufacturing techniques
  • Support prototype builds with the end goal of high-volume production
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of hands-on engineering experience (internship or academic project experience acceptable)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, hands-on manufacturing environment
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with welding, machining, or assembly of complex electromechanical systems
  • Familiarity with high-rate or automated production line design and optimization
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies
  • Proven experience designing, building, or modifying challenging mechanical systems
  • Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing
  • Experience building metallic structures, ideally stainless steel
  • Participation in hands-on engineering competitions (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja SAE, RoboSub, Combat Robotics)
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical reasoning and mission-critical messaging clearly
Physical:
  • Comfortable working on the factory floor alongside technicians and welders
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Physical dexterity required for crouching, kneeling, and working in varied positions
  • Ability to focus and operate effectively in a loud, hot factory environment

Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
