Supervise and support setup, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) and subsea well control systems. Provide design input, ensure regulatory compliance, oversee vendors, audit quality, support rig operations offshore, produce reports, and assist with equipment procurement and certification management.
Primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) systems and equipment for onsite MPD applications. Provide design input and operational procedural guidance from knowledge of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of components and parts of the managed pressure drilling system, specialty riser joints, umbilical reels, control skids, manifolds and other associated equipment; drilling or marine related subsea and surface support equipment such as running, retrieving, and testing tools and any other equipment associated with the MPD system, marine riser system, surface well control safety system; all pressure, latch-up and test equipment to ensure all evolutions are performed safely and within the limitations of the equipment. Ensure that all well control equipment and activities meet all corporate, local, and client regulations and requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of technical background in managed pressure drilling and support systems.
- 5+ years of experience in managed pressure drilling operations.
- Ability to generate functional specifications, review design and test documentation, and oversee equipment and system manufacture, testing, installation, commissioning and operation of subsea well control systems.
- Experience with managed pressure drilling system supply, bid package preparation and evaluation.
- Experience with applicable industry and regulatory codes, standards, and recommended practices for subsea well control systems. Ability to participate on industry committees (API, ISO, etc.).
- Previous experience with API, DNV, and ABS certifying authorities, with detailed knowledge of API, U.S. CFR’s, ABS-CDS, & DNV OSE-101.
- Familiar with current managed pressure drilling technology and future trends.
- Hydraulic, electronics and mechanical troubleshooting experience.
- Understanding of mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Familiar with at-sea operations.
- Experience at decision making and problem solving.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and within groups.
- Possess skills in time management and establishing priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including MS Project; proficiency in other project management software or systems preferred.
- SAP/ERP Plant Maintenance and Material Management modules preferred.
- Travel is an essential job function (approximately 100%, this is an offshore rotational position).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Experience with dual gradient/controlled mud level operations and equipment.
- Knowledge in well engineering with CML operations
- Involvement in installing and commissioning CML systems
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) systems and equipment for onsite MPD applications.
- Assist operational groups with ensuring the internal and external preservation, including lubrication of all managed pressure drilling equipment in storage and/or not in use. Monitor operator provided managed pressure drilling equipment prior to running to ensure compatibility with equipment it may be connected to.
- Advise on any complications that might occur in the usage of managed pressure drilling riser joints, manifolds, control systems, umbilicals, and electronic controls for MPD associated equipment.
- Demonstrate system knowledge and reference material location in order to perform all aspects of maintenance, repair and upkeep on all managed pressure drilling systems and support systems, mechanical auxiliary systems, preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment. Conduct equipment overhaul as required.
- Ensure that subsea well control equipment vendors are aware of Noble’s quality assurance requirements.
- Provide design input for pulling the managed pressure drilling equipment, overall drilling operations to assemble and disassemble all inter-related equipment involved with drill string, managed pressure drilling, subsea and surface support systems.
- Perform calculations, e.g. fluids, total weights of managed pressure drilling equipment and riser string before spudding, nitrogen pre-charge in accumulator bottles, water depths and its impact on equipment, heavy equipment, and evolution planning for most efficient, time effective operations.
- Submit progress reports to management on work accomplished as well as detailed reports on any major breakdown, operational requirements or improvements needed within area of responsibility. Follow the maintenance program along with rig maintenance personnel.
- Provide assistance as required in reviewing purchase requisitions for managed pressure drilling spare parts, tools, materials, and services.
- Monitor and/or correct any design discrepancy related to personnel safety.
- Supervise and monitor design output for operations related to drilling, subsea or surface support equipment.
- Actively participate in setting and striving to achieve the Company’s Corporate and Subsea annual goals. Ensure that hemisphere Subsea expectations are well understood, distributed, and followed.
- Act as intermediary between Subsea staff on the rig and the client’s subject matter experts, Corporate Engineering support, and relevant equipment or services suppliers.
- Review and provide technical input regarding relevant subsea equipment during all phases of Engineering projects.
- Coordinate with Subsea Systems Manager and Subsea Engineering Manager to effectively rotate managed pressure drilling equipment so as to maintain Certification of Conformity (“CoC”) compliance.
- Interface with manufacturers and service providers in the region. Audit manufacturing facilities for quality assurance. Audit service providers to ensure service personnel provided meet Noble’s expectations.
- Review all Original Equipment Manufacturer (“OEM”) bulletins and Company well control equipment-related alerts for relevance to the region and ensure that an effective action plan is in place.
- Ensure that the region acquires an approved Management of Change (“MOC”) in the event that a deviation from Noble’s “Subsea Standards” is necessary.
- Provide a high level of support and availability to rig(s) even when not physically present on the rig(s).
- Make visits to rigs as necessary for incident investigations, end of well supervision, and yearly audits.
- Evaluate managed pressure drilling and drilling personnel to confirm that crews are competent and contribute to succession planning and long-term staffing needs.
- Adhere to and participate in Noble’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (“HSE”) policies and procedures.
- Assist project teams with installation and commissioning of managed pressure drilling equipment.
- Monitor the progress of vendors on building of new equipment and repairs of existing equipment.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
