Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced OpenInsight Developer who combines deep expertise in MultiValue/OpenInsight systems with the technical vision and leadership to move the organization toward modern platforms. This role supports both the stability of our current OpenInsight environment and the long-term strategy of migrating critical systems to contemporary technologies.

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Has deep, hands-on expertise developing and maintaining OpenInsight applications

  • Can manage, mentor, and lead a team of OpenInsight developers

  • Understands how to keep OpenInsight environments stable, performant, and well-documented

  • Can reverse-engineer legacy systems and translate them into modern architectural blueprints

  • Bridges the gap between legacy MultiValue systems and modern SQL, cloud, or API-based platforms

  • Embraces AI as a practical development tool—using it to write, review, document, and test code more effectively

  • Communicates technical concepts clearly to both developers and non-technical stakeholders

  • Thrives in a structured, ticket-driven environment and takes ownership of deliverables end-to-end

You will act as a key technical leader and systems steward, ensuring the reliability of our OpenInsight platform today while actively driving the roadmap toward modernization.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development

  • Analyze, design, code, test, and deploy applications in OpenInsight and related MultiValue technologies

  • Implement system enhancements, custom reports, and data imports/exports to support evolving business requirements

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and write test cases that validate both new and existing code changes

  • Perform plan builds and validate test logic prior to implementation in production environments

  • Review and ensure code quality, consistency, and adherence to development standards across the team

  • Leverage AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar tools) to accelerate development, generate boilerplate code, and reduce repetitive manual coding tasks

  • Use AI tools to assist with code review, identifying logic errors, potential bugs, and security vulnerabilities before deployment

  • Apply AI-assisted testing tools to help generate test cases, identify edge cases, and improve test coverage across OpenInsight applications

OpenInsight Administration & System Maintenance

  • Administer and maintain OpenInsight server environments, including version management, patching, and performance tuning

  • Monitor system stability, availability, and data integrity of production OpenInsight applications

  • Manage database structures, file definitions, and MultiValue data models within the OpenInsight environment

  • Configure and maintain OpenInsight security, user access controls, and audit logging

  • Establish and enforce backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures for OpenInsight systems

  • Maintain development, test, and production environment separation and promotion procedures

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to OpenInsight application errors, data anomalies, and system performance

Team Leadership & Developer Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of OpenInsight developers, providing technical direction and code review

  • Set development standards, coding conventions, and documentation requirements for the OpenInsight team

  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and skills development for OpenInsight development staff

  • Assign and prioritize work across the development team in coordination with project managers and business stakeholders

  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and cross-training to reduce single points of failure within the team

  • Participate in project requirements, status review, and sprint planning meetings as the technical lead

Legacy System Documentation & Modernization Planning

  • Extract and document specifications, business logic, data models, and workflows from existing OpenInsight systems

  • Create technical documentation that enables developers unfamiliar with MultiValue to understand and re-implement system functionality

  • Evaluate and recommend modern replacement platforms (e.g., .NET, cloud-based ERP, SQL Server, or API-driven architectures) suited to current business needs

  • Lead or support migration initiatives that transition OpenInsight functionality to modern technologies with minimal business disruption

  • Design data migration strategies to move MultiValue data structures into relational or cloud-based data stores

  • Build integration bridges (APIs, ETL pipelines, or middleware) between legacy OpenInsight systems and modern platforms during transition phases

  • Track and report modernization progress against roadmap milestones to IT leadership

  • Use AI tools to assist with extracting, summarizing, and documenting business logic from legacy OpenInsight code, accelerating the discovery and specification phase of modernization projects

  • Leverage AI-assisted code translation tools to help convert OpenInsight/MultiValue BASIC routines into modern language equivalents, validating output for accuracy and completeness

End User Support & Communication

  • Provide Tier 2–3 support for issues reported from existing OpenInsight applications, testing and deploying fixes as required

  • Monitor accuracy of incoming data and perform reconciliation processes to ensure data integrity
