We're Hiring: Affiliate Writer (Freelance) at Operation Sports

Operation Sports is the internet’s premier destination for sports video game coverage—where hardcore sports fans and sim gamers come together. Now, we’re expanding our content strategy to include gear, merch, and event coverage, and we’re hiring writers to help us build a new layer of affiliate-driven content across the site.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking sharp, passionate writers who love both sports and sports culture—and know what fans actually buy. You don’t just follow the games—you follow the gear. You’ve argued about the best jerseys, bookmarked player merch drops, and maybe even compared ticket packages for big events.

This is a remote freelance role, perfect for writers who know how to blend commerce with storytelling.

We’re Looking for Writers Who:
  • Have a sharp eye for merchandisesports trends, and affiliate-friendly topics
  • Know how to write commerce content that doesn’t sound like a sales pitch
  • Can confidently handle one or more of the following formats:
    • Product roundups
    • Gift guides
    • Shopping listicles
    • Game x gear comparisons
  • Are fluent in English with strong grammar
  • Can provide 1–3 relevant writing samples (especially if you’ve done affiliate content or sports writing before)

Bonus points if you’ve worked with WordPress, Google Trends, or affiliate networks.

Pay Expectations
  • U.S. writers: Paid freelance rates per article
  • International writers: Hourly contract (part-time or full-time depending on region)
  • All roles have the opportunity to transition into a larger or full-time role
Interview Process
  1. Resume & Application Review
  2. Short Writing Sample Test
  3. Interview with the Managing Editor
To Apply

Please include:

  • Your resume
  • 1–3 writing samples (ideally showing your sports or affiliate writing skills)
  • A brief cover letter on your sports expertise and gear knowledge—what teams, leagues, or moments do you follow, and what topics could you own?
