How You Will Make an Impact

The Operations Analytics / Process Improvement Intern will support data‑driven initiatives designed to improve operational efficiency and reduce variability across Atlas Energy’s sites. This role is ideal for students interested in operations analytics, process engineering, industrial engineering, or business optimization. Interns will work closely with site teams and corporate leadership to uncover insights, evaluate processes, and implement practical improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform cost-per-ton analyses to identify improvement opportunities and cost drivers
  • Compare shift-level performance to highlight operational differences and best practices
  • Support Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives, including data preparation and workshop participation
  • Gather and analyze data from site systems to support operational decision‑making
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to validate findings and help implement improvement recommendations
  • Build simple dashboards or reports to communicate insights clearly and consistently

Expected Deliverables

  • Cost‑Per‑Ton Breakdown: Detailed analysis of cost drivers and recommended improvement actions
  • Implemented Improvement: At least one practical improvement delivered in partnership with site teams
  • Additional analytics summaries or process documentation as needed

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Business Analytics, Data Science, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Proficiency in Excel required; familiarity with Power BI or similar tools is a plus
  • Interest in operations, process improvement, and data visualization
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convert data into actionable insights
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across site and corporate environments
