This opportunity focuses on proactive claims management in accord with contract/plan provisions, state and federal guidelines, and company protocols. Claims will include both individual life policies and group life insurance certificates with a variety of group sizes.

The ideal candidate should have a thorough understanding of life insurance products, as well as substantial experience in not only contestable and foreign death investigations but also in multistate claim operations and regulations.

Your Day-to-Day

• Evaluate the appropriateness of each payment, denial, and calculation of benefit in accord with both contractual and statutory requirements
• Establish and maintain contact with beneficiaries to efficiently and thoroughly resolve each claim within service level agreements, statutory requirements, and company guidelines\procedures
• Perform contestability investigations, evaluate for possible rescission, make rescission determination, and draft rescission letters where\when applicable
• Collaborate and direct 3rd party investigators on foreign \ presumptive death authentications and contestable investigations
• Work closely with claims management regarding claims and live rescission experience to determine if application or underwriting changes are warranted 
• Work closely with Legal and Compliance as related to claims, rescissions, and claims litigation
• Proactively communicate with claimants, plan holders, 3rd party investigators, and physicians to obtain information deemed necessary to complete adjudication 
• Complete all other tasks and projects as assigned by management

A Little About You

• 5+ years of Life Insurance claim adjudication and contestable investigations experience with a multi-state carrier
• Regulatory and Compliance experience
• Understanding of medical terminology helpful
• Strong math aptitude skills and PC skills
• Outstanding customer service and analytical skills
• Demonstrate independent problem solving and decision-making ability
• Ability to mentor and motivate junior examiners
• Ability to clearly communicate claims decisions and contract language verbally and in writing
• Ability to work independently and within a highly collaborative team environment
• Ability to adapt to change
• 4-year college degree preferred or equivalent work/education experience
• Industry designations (ALHC, FLHC, FLMI, ALMI) are desirable
