Job Description

We’re seeking a Package Designer to join the Amazon Fresh creative team. Reporting to the Creative Director of Package Design, you’ll help create packaging that extends brand guidelines and ensures consistency across private brand categories and products.

With strong branding and packaging design experience—especially in the food space—you’re eager to grow your skills in food photography and on-set art direction. A self-starter, detail-oriented, and collaborative, you bring strategic thinking, creativity, and a team-player mindset to every project. Based at Whole Foods Market HQ in Austin, TX, this role focuses on Amazon Fresh grocery stores, with occasional cross-brand collaboration. Our laid-back, hard-working culture values trust, self-responsibility, and collaborative creativity. We’re a supportive, positive, eclectic group of creative misfits. The right candidate for this role will not just fit into our culture, but add to it.

This role is based in Austin, TX, with an expectation of being in the Store Support office five days a week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Execution: Develop and evolve packaging design systems across categories, ensuring consistency while delivering innovative, impactful designs.
  • Production Files: Prepare and deliver print-ready mechanical files.
  • Asset Management: Organize and archive mechanicals, templates, and assets.
  • Brand Guidelines: Apply and adapt brand standards across categories.
  • Photography Collaboration: Oversee on-set food photography (virtually and in person), ensuring consistency and creative integrity.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with stakeholders to align designs with brand and category requirements.
  • Creative Reviews: Incorporate feedback from Creative Directors and stakeholders to refine designs.

Skills & Qualifications

Hard Skills

  • Design Skills: Strong understanding of typography, color, and composition across substrates and sizes.
  • Packaging Experience: Proficient in packaging design systems, particularly in food retail.
  • Brand Guidelines: Experience applying and expanding brand standards.
  • Food Photography: Interest in learning and assisting with food photography; prior art direction experience is a plus.
  • Software: Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).

Soft Skills

  • Dependable: Deliver high-quality work on time, managing priorities effectively.
  • Collaborative: Foster trust, cooperation, and a positive team dynamic.
  • Detail-Oriented: Ensure designs and files are error-free and polished.
  • Time Management: Excel in multitasking and meeting deadlines in fast-paced settings.
  • Adaptable: Thrive in changing environments with a positive, solution-focused attitude.
  • Proactive: Take initiative, identify opportunities, and solve problems independently.
  • Problem-Solving: Anticipate challenges and craft practical, creative solutions.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience: as graphic designer or packaging designer.
  • Note on Experience: Great ideas matter most. We prioritize solving customer problems with bold, creative thinking and can support your growth if you have strong design skills and a passion for packaging but need more hands-on experience.
