Manage Bluesky’s relationships with news organizations, reporters, newsroom teams, and publishers. Guide partners on Bluesky and AT Protocol, develop audience-growth strategies, plan digital and in-person campaigns, define partnership metrics, and use data to improve engagement. Collaborate with product, marketing, communications, and trust and safety teams to turn partner insights into product recommendations and strengthen Bluesky’s value for news publishers.
Bluesky's vision is to make social more like the web itself. We're building a social media app, but beyond that, we've created a protocol that supports a broad ecosystem of applications and clients. Imagine a network of applications - from microblogging to photos to video to long-form writing - all interconnected and accessible with a shared identity.
About the Role:
Bluesky is proud to support the work of thousands of media publications, from local independents to major newsrooms. As our News & Media Partnerships Manager, you'll be the connective tissue between Bluesky and the news industry, spanning beat reporters, columnists, independent journalists, newsroom audience teams, local outlets, and beyond.
You should be equally comfortable DMing a reporter, walking an audience team through AT Protocol, or sitting with our developers to shape how we drive more traffic to publications. You'll work closely with the Partnerships Lead, and cross-functionally with product and trust & safety to make Bluesky the best place for publishers to build an audience they actually own.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders across the news industry: beat reporters, newsroom audience teams, and publisher leadership.
- Guide our news and media partners through Bluesky and AT Protocol, helping them to grow their audience.
- Establish programmatic activations with partners. Own planning and execution across both IRL and digital campaigns.
- Work cross-functionally with product, marketing, and comms to translate partner insights into actionable recommendations, and advocate for the needs of news partners internally.
- Define success metrics for news partnerships, track your inputs and outputs, and report clearly on what's working - your data will inform our priorities and resource allocation.
- Use data to develop an engagement strategy that identifies opportunities to strengthen how we serve news publishers.
You might be a good fit if you:
- Have 5+ years of experience in content partnerships, audience development, or business development within a news/media capacity.
- Have deep knowledge of the news ecosystem, with existing relationships and the ability to build new ones quickly.
- Have worked in high-velocity startup environments where you ship fast and iterate often.
- Are fluent in social. You don't just "manage partnerships," you get the internet.
- Have a track record of leading campaigns that moved the needle on awareness, sentiment, and/or growth.
- Can operate autonomously, move fast, and deliver results in ambiguous or rapidly evolving spaces.
We're especially excited if you:
- Are already familiar with Bluesky, AT Protocol, or the decentralized social landscape.
- Have experience with the commercial side of the content industry.
- Have worked directly in news media, at a newsroom or a publication.
- Can show us a portfolio of partnerships campaigns you've worked on.
Additional Notes:
- The anticipated contract range for this position is $100–$110 an hour USD
The base pay range for this role is $90 – $100 per hour.
