Our products, business, and workplace culture have received numerous awards, such as being named to the Forbes Cloud 100 and a Fortune Best Workplace in Technology. Lucid is a hybrid workplace, allowing employees to work remotely, from one of our offices, or a combination of the two depending on the needs of the role and team. At Lucid, we hold true to our core values of teamwork over ego, innovation in everything we do, individual empowerment, initiative, and ownership, and passion and excellence in every area. We value diverse perspectives and are dedicated to creating an environment that is respectful and inclusive for everyone.

Lucid is seeking a dynamic Payroll Specialist to join our team and maintain our high standards of operational excellence. Reporting to the Senior Payroll Manager and partnering closely with Accounting and People Operations, you will drive our semi-monthly US multi-state payroll while supporting monthly processes across several international jurisdictions, including our offices in Amsterdam, Melbourne, and Hamburg.

We have invested in thoughtfully architected system structures—utilizing Workday for our US operations—to drive automation and precision. You will act as a steward of data integrity, balancing sophisticated system oversight with hands-on preparation and audits. We are looking for a professional who thrives while navigating multiple systems and competing deadlines with a zeal for process optimization and technical innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Verification & Control: Serve as the primary internal checkpoint for payroll data entered by other departments. Ensure all inputs adhere to internal controls and company policy before processing.
  • Time & Attendance Management: Manage the end-to-end collection and approval process for employee hours, ensuring timecards are accurate and ready for payroll processing.
  • Fringe Benefits Management: Record and track fringe benefits within our US and international payroll systems, including coordination for international benefit filings.
  • Tax & Compliance Coordination: Partner with our payroll providers to manage and resolve payroll tax notices and filings, ensuring we remain in good standing across all jurisdictions.
  • Audit & Reporting: Perform pre- and post-payroll audits. Maintain ongoing, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports (including W-2 reconciliations) to ensure 100% data integrity.
  • Financial & 401(k) Audits: Participate in annual financial and 401(k) audits, as well as other special projects and team initiatives as needed.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the primary subject matter expert for US multi-state payroll functions, focusing on 401(k) administration, leave of absence, and fringe benefits.
  • International Support: Support international payroll processes for our offices in Amsterdam, Melbourne, and Hamburg.
  • Employee Experience: Provide a responsive, customer-service approach to employee inquiries, resolving complex pay and tax issues with clarity and professionalism.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-3 years of payroll experience for 100+ employees
  • Strong understanding of US payroll concepts and processes
  • Proven track record of managing and reviewing high volumes of data. You should be comfortable using spreadsheets to perform deep-dive reconciliations
  • Strong skills in Excel and Google Sheets (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables) and a natural comfort level with HRIS/Payroll technology
  • Extreme attention to detail and accuracy. You take pride in finding the "needle in the haystack" during an audit
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a passion for emerging technologies and the ability to quickly grasp new technical concepts
  • A self-starter with a commitment to excellence who can work independently, manage multiple deliverables, meet aggressive deadlines, and take full ownership of their assigned workstreams
  • A team player who maintains an optimistic outlook and thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative growth environment
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex information clearly to employees and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Workday and Cloudpay
  • International payroll experience
  • Experience with system integrations
  • Familiarity with benefits & leave
  • Comfortable with accounting concepts
  • Experience with employers of record (EOR)
  • SaaS company experience
