The Opportunity

Iron Mountain seeks a Platform Architect to have deep architecture experience with a specific platform along with experience and knowledge with many of the latest technologies in that domain. The Platform Architect is tasked with overseeing the design, development and implementation of
robust, scalable and secure platform solutions that align with business objectives while establishing a strong technical foundation in the platform. The Platform Architect guides and collaborates closely with cross functional teams to define, maintain and modernize the platform architecture and ensures alignment with enterprise goals and drives innovation. This role will also be responsible for continuously improving the capabilities using data-driven methods, enforcing platform standards, ensuring compliance with policy where required and enabling a rich developer and user experience.

This position will be a key change agent, strategic thinker and technical expert who can build a team to focus on results while also building long term strategic plans to evolve the technology platform solutions to position the company for strategic growth. This leader will need to balance strategic vision with hands-on leadership and also bring energy and enthusiasm by leading by example to inspire cultural change and demonstrate what “art of the possible” means in practice.

Role and Responsibilities

Platform Design and Development

● Develop and evolve a platform strategy, aligned to and prioritized by business objectives
● Develop and communicate measurements of platform progress and business impact
● Translate business requirements into technical requirements that technical team members include in the project design and delivery
● Drive the overall technical design and end-to-end platform design for assigned initiatives
● Support application teams as they design and implement solutions which center on the consumption of the platform
● Influence/coach modern evolutionary platform architecture principles and practices
● Review and identify gaps in architecture and assess and define remediation efforts or mitigation options
● Document and share platform technical best practices and insights
● Partner with enterprise and technology architects to identify and enable the top strategic technologies/platforms that will help shape the organization’s technology footprint to support cross-enterprise business requirements
● Designs reference and platform architectures based on specific business constraints, requirements and dependencies
● Drives cross-domain initiatives that are supported by end-to-end design, applies digital standards to project platform architecture, and drives technical strategy and architectural tradeoff discussions

Leadership

● Drives the recruitment, hiring, training, motivating and retaining of team members
● Coaches and provides technical guidance and mentorship to the teams to improve collaboration and outcomes
● Encourages a culture of team-driven decision making and commitment

● Keeps abreast of industry trends through benchmarking, participation in professional associations, etc. in order to lead strategic business direction of the department

Technical Skills

Front-End & Web Platforms

Strong hands-on coding experience with React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS

Ability to define front-end architecture standards, performance best practices, and component design systems

Back-End & API Development
Experience designing and implementing back-end services using Ruby / Ruby on Rails and Python
Strong understanding of API design, service boundaries, and scalable backend architectures
Mobile Platform Architecture
Experience contributing to and guiding iOS applications using Swift
Ability to define shared platform services and integration patterns across web and mobile clients
Familiarity with mobile performance, release pipelines, and observability

Code Review & Technical Guidance

Lead and participate in code reviews across front-end (React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS), back-end (Ruby/Rails, Python), and mobile (Swift/iOS) codebases

Establish, document, and enforce coding standards, architectural patterns, and best practices

Guide teams on performance, scalability, security, maintainability, and testability

Provide architectural feedback early in the development lifecycle to prevent technical debt

Critical Competencies

● Strong understanding of platform architecture principles and design patterns
● Proven experience in designing and implementing scalable and high-performance platforms
● Expertise in relevant programming languages and technologies
● Deep knowledge of cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
● Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
● Excellent communication and collaboration skills
● Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
● Experience with Agile development methodologies
● High level working knowledge of multiple complex software and hardware platforms including network architectures
● Ability to work in a fast paced, high tech environment juggling multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
 

The Ideal Candidate Characteristics & Credentials

● At least 15+ years of experience
● Bachelor's degree preferred in Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Information Security or related field or equivalent experience
● Experience working across all levels of a highly matrixed global organization
● Strong sense of urgency and results orientation
● Ability to quickly develop domain expertise and manage change
● Exceptional written and oral communication skills
● Ability to work in a team environment and maintain professionalism and integrity

Reasonably expected salary range: $163,400.00 - $217,900.00
