Job Description
At Bose, we believe sound is the most powerful force on earth. We bring together research, engineering, and a passion for audio to create experiences that people love. Join us to turn advanced signal processing into reliable, reusable technology that reaches products across multiple platforms and form factors.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Principal DSP Engineer to lead the architecture, development, and production deployment of audio signal processing technology across multiple product lines. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer who combines deep DSP expertise with the judgment to make system-level decisions and guide complex engineering efforts.
You will work at the intersection of research and product engineering, turning reference algorithms into efficient, portable DSP components and configurable audio processing chains. You will define approaches that enable reuse across platforms, reduce duplicated implementations, and improve quality and maintainability.
This role is based onsite in Framingham, MA, working directly with algorithm, systems, firmware, and hardware teams. You will also provide technical direction to engineers across locations and collaborate with ML and ANC/ANR specialists when their technologies intersect with the audio subsystem.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead DSP architecture and technical execution across product platforms, defining component boundaries, interfaces, processing chains, and requirements for performance and validation.
  • Translate research algorithms and MATLAB/Simulink models into production-quality C/C++ implementations; remain directly involved in coding, optimization, and debugging.
  • Establish reusable DSP components and configurable reference chains, making deliberate trade-offs between common implementations and justified platform or product variants.
  • Guide fixed-point and floating-point design, including numerical precision, scaling, saturation, stability, and agreement with reference models.
  • Lead profiling and optimization for compute, memory, latency, and power constraints on DSP and embedded processors, including Cadence HiFi, ARM, and Qualcomm Hexagon platforms.
  • Lead hands-on hardware bring-up, lab debugging, and performance characterization; resolve complex real-time, algorithm, and integration failures with partner teams.
  • Define validation strategies using reference outputs, test vectors, automated regression tests, and target measurements to demonstrate audio quality and implementation correctness.
  • Set engineering standards for design reviews, code quality, documentation, and release readiness; mentor engineers and guide technical decisions across distributed teams.
  • Partner with research and product teams to clarify requirements, assess technical risks, and make practical delivery decisions as priorities and platform needs evolve.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of relevant DSP and embedded software development experience, including substantial technical leadership of complex audio or signal processing systems.
  • Deep expertise in digital signal processing and a demonstrated track record of delivering algorithms from research or prototype through production deployment.
  • Expert-level C/C++ skills and strong MATLAB/Simulink experience for algorithm analysis, modeling, and implementation validation.
  • Extensive experience with fixed-point and floating-point DSP, including numerical analysis and performance trade-off evaluation.
  • Strong experience developing and optimizing real-time software on embedded DSPs or processors, with hands-on experience in at least one relevant architecture such as Cadence HiFi, ARM, or Qualcomm Hexagon.
  • Demonstrated architectural judgment in designing modular, reusable DSP libraries, frameworks, or platform components across multiple products or targets.
  • Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex algorithm, memory, timing, and integration issues using profiling, debugging, and lab tools.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and communicate design decisions and trade-offs effectively.
  • Ability to work onsite in Framingham, MA, and collaborate effectively with teams across locations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience with audio processing such as equalization, dynamics, filtering, sample-rate conversion, spatial audio, or voice processing.
  • SIMD/vector optimization using processor intrinsics or assembly, including ARM Neon/Helium, Cadence HiFi, Qualcomm Hexagon, or x64 SIMD.
  • Experience with low-latency streaming audio, RTOS or embedded Linux environments, and multicore SoCs.
  • Experience with Embedded Coder or similar code-generation tools, automated test infrastructure, and continuous integration.
  • Experience integrating ML inference or collaborating with ANC/ANR controls engineers on embedded audio systems.
