Principal Full Stack Engineer | $90-$120/hr + Remote | Inc. 5000 Award-Winning, High-Growth Coaching Company

This role is a fully remote contract to hire position. The contract is full time for 3 months and will become a direct hire role contingent upon performance. This role requires to be available within at least 5-6 hours of an 8-5 or 9-6 MST schedule.

The Senior Full Stack Engineer will be working on a custom community platform built for personal development, coaching, courses, community forums, and daily engagement. The product is currently in private beta, with a near term goal of being launch ready by November 13.

This is an opportunity to join at an important stage. There is already a substantial product and codebase, but meaningful engineering work remains before it is taken public. You'll initially work closely with the engineer who designed and built the platform, while progressively taking greater responsibility for its architecture, production readiness, and technical operations. Over time, this person is expected to become the internal technical owner of the platform.

Responsibilities:

• Assess the existing production codebase for security vulnerabilities, scalability and performance bottlenecks, architecture risks, data protection concerns, and reliability issues, then prioritize and implement pragmatic improvements required for a safe, stable public launch.
• Take increasing ownership of the overall technical health and architecture of the platform, ultimately becoming the internal technical owner responsible for its stability, security, scalability, reliability, and continued evolution.
• Own features end to end, from data modeling and architecture through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
• Work across the full stack with a strong backend focus, while remaining hands on with Vue.js frontend development and contributing to a polished customer experience.
• Serve as the internal technical counterpart to outside engineering partners, reviewing architecture and code, challenging technical decisions when appropriate, validating deliverables, and ensuring work meets product, security, scalability, and production requirements.
• Partner with the existing platform engineer on technical knowledge transfer, including architecture, codebase knowledge, environments, infrastructure, accounts, deployment processes, documentation, and operational procedures.
• Own production readiness and technical operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, release readiness, technical QA, and escalation of production issues.
• Design, automate, and execute rigorous functional, regression, load, and smoke testing.
• Identify and communicate technical risks early while distinguishing genuine engineering concerns from personal preferences.
• Design and evolve relational data models, PostgreSQL schemas, queries, indexes, migrations, and Prisma models, with a strong understanding of relational database design and performance.
• Work across integrations such as Stripe Connect, LiveKit, Twilio, Zoom, Anthropic, and pgvector.
• Use AI coding agents to accelerate development while maintaining high standards for correctness, reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Ideally contribute to the platform's production AI architecture, including LLM integrations, RAG, agents, context management, retrieval, evaluation, and production reliability.

• 8 to 12+ years of software engineering experience, including strong production experience with Vue.js and deep hands on experience with relational database design. PostgreSQL experience is preferred, and experience with Nuxt and Prisma is a plus.
• Proven experience owning significant portions of a production platform across backend architecture, databases, APIs and integrations, infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production support.
• Proven experience assessing production applications for security, scalability, reliability, and performance risks, with hands on experience identifying vulnerabilities, protecting sensitive customer data, diagnosing bottlenecks, and implementing pragmatic improvements.
• Strong backend engineering depth, with the technical judgment to understand an existing system holistically and eventually take responsibility for its architecture and technical health.
• Experience reviewing and validating other engineers' or external development partners' work, including architecture decisions, code quality, testing, security, scalability, and production readiness.
• Ability to quickly understand and contribute within an existing codebase and technical direction, identifying material risks and making pragmatic improvements rather than defaulting to unnecessary rewrites or redesigns.
• Experience owning production readiness, including monitoring, incident troubleshooting, release processes, technical QA, and resolving critical production issues.
• Background in regulated industries or high volume e-commerce is a bonus, particularly environments involving sensitive customer data, compliance requirements, high transaction volumes, and large numbers of concurrent users.
• Proven experience using AI coding agents on a production codebase to improve productivity, not replace thinking. Production experience with AI/LLM architecture, including RAG, agents, context management, model integrations, or similar systems, is a strong plus.
• Extremely organized and self sufficient, with the ability to operate independently and make sound technical decisions in a fast paced environment.
• Excited to work in a startup environment, with a track record of adapting to changing priorities and taking increasing technical ownership as the company scales.
• Proven experience owning entire features and systems from architecture and data modeling through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing production support.
