Bad Robot Games is looking for a Principal UI/UX Designer to drive our Internal and Outsourcing UI/UX efforts for our new, unannounced IP. The ideal candidate has an excellent eye for wireframing, prototyping, player flow, iconography, graphic design, and the ability to implement what they create in-engine, within the context of game user experience and presentation. They also have a passion for and deep knowledge of games, specifically online multiplayer shooters, and are driven to deliver exceptional player experiences. In this role, they will be a strong individual contributor to the UI/UX team, plan work, implement designs, and provide feedback and guidance to the rest of the team.

A portfolio that demonstrates a strong understanding of UI/UX design and implementation in 3D interactive environments is required. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design an effective user interface in a multiplayer action game
  • Research usability to help define actionable steps in pursuing a great experience for our players
  • Wireframe/Sketch/Prototype/Test/Implement your work into Unreal Engine 5 by connecting to existing Blueprints
  • Coordinate and collaborate with key team members to achieve desired quality in an asynchronous environment and champion user-centered design
  • Present and pitch designs to project team members, keeping the goal of delivering a great experience for our players at the forefront
  • Drive external/outsourced UI/UX development and work with the internal team for implementation
  • Fix and identify UI/UX-related bugs in partnership with the team, and ensure that UI/UX assets are performant and optimized
  • Work with the Art Director, UI team and other creative leads to reinforce UI/UX direction for the game
  • Playtest regularly and understand each facet of the game closely
  • Maintain style guides, documentation, and other resources
  • Mentor UI/UX team, helping them develop their skills and creativity. This involves providing constructive feedback
  • Accountable for quality delivery, milestones for the project, and individual contributor tasks

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • 12+ years of experience in AAA game development as a UI/UX designer and at least one shipped multiplayer online game, preferably a shooter
  • 3+ years of experience in Unreal - Slate, MVVM, UMG
  • Has experience in managing and working with outsource vendors for UI/UX
  • Has a strong understanding of Unreal 5, Figma, Miro, and other tools needed for UI/UX art, etc. 
  • Experience with implementing art and animation assets into engine via Unreal Blueprints that have already been established
  • Ability to create AAA quality UI art assets (Icons, Animations, Fonts, etc) within the Adobe Suite and Figma from concept to completion and implementation
  • Strong understanding of iconography and graphic design and how it relates to game design
  • An interest and passion in creating a seamless, enjoyable user experience for players
  • Experience in creating prototypes and wireframes to showcase flow and demonstrate player experience
  • Highly collaborative within and beyond the art team, and is able to identify gaps in communication and process
  • Has experience mentoring UI/UX artists in their growth, communicating feedback, and advocating for their success
  • All of our roles require up to 10% air travel. Examples include Studio/Team Offsites, Team/Studio Events, etc.

  • Programming experience (C++, C#, etc.) is a plus
  • Passionate about shooter games and communicating core shooter feedback
  • Knowledge and passion for online multiplayer shooters, and the ability to translate that into amazing UI/UX experiences for our players

Annual Salary Range: $160,000 - $165,000

Our ranges are based on California market rate regardless of work location in the US.
