About Paradromics

Brain-related illness is one of the last great frontiers in medicine, not because the brain is unknowable, but because it has been inaccessible. Paradromics is building a brain-computer interface (BCI) platform that records brain activity at the highest possible resolution: the individual neuron. AI algorithms then decode this massive amount of brain-data, enabling the seamless translation of thought into treatments.

Our first clinical application, the Connexus® BCI, will help people who are unable to speak, due to ALS, spinal cord injuries and stroke, to communicate independently through digital devices. However, the capabilities of our BCI platform go far beyond our first application. With the brain in direct communication with digital devices, we can leverage technology to transform how we treat conditions ranging from sensory and motor deficits to untreatable mental illness.

The Role

We are seeking a Process Engineer – Motion Systems to own and advance critical in-house manufacturing processes driven by G-code, Automation1, and Python, including laser and EDM systems. This role will focus on improving yield, reliability, and throughput through both independent and cross-functional process improvement efforts.

You will also play a key role in investigating non-conformances, qualifying equipment, and enabling automation across manufacturing workflows where motion systems can replace manual processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own and optimize motion-controlled manufacturing processes, including EDM and laser systems
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and improve G-code programs and motion system performance
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to increase yield, reliability, and cycle time
  • Investigate and disposition non-conformances using structured root cause methodologies
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to automate manual processes using motion systems
  • Support equipment qualification activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) where applicable
  • Write and maintain Python scripts for process automation, data analysis, and system integration

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)
  • Proficiency in G-code and multi-axis motion systems (e.g., Aerotech, PI)
  • Experience writing and debugging Python scripts for automation or data analysis
  • Proven track record of driving yield or process improvements using structured methodologies (DOE, 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa)
  • Experience with data analysis, including data extraction, cleaning, and statistical evaluation
  • Background in a regulated manufacturing environment (e.g., MedTech, Aerospace), including handling non-conformance reports
  • Demonstrated ownership of a manufacturing process or production line
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with laser processing (cutting or ablation)
  • Experience automating inspection or test processes using motion systems
  • Familiarity with equipment qualification processes (IQ/OQ/PQ)

Paradromics is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.

What you need to know about the Austin Tech Scene

Austin has a diverse and thriving tech ecosystem thanks to home-grown companies like Dell and major campuses for IBM, AMD and Apple. The state’s flagship university, the University of Texas at Austin, is known for its engineering school, and the city is known for its annual South by Southwest tech and media conference. Austin’s tech scene spans many verticals, but it’s particularly known for hardware, including semiconductors, as well as AI, biotechnology and cloud computing. And its food and music scene, low taxes and favorable climate has made the city a destination for tech workers from across the country.

Key Facts About Austin Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 180,500; 13.7% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Dell, IBM, AMD, Apple, Alphabet
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, hardware, cloud computing, software, healthtech
  • Funding Landscape: $4.5 billion in VC funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Live Oak Ventures, Austin Ventures, Hinge Capital, Gigafund, KdT Ventures, Next Coast Ventures, Silverton Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Texas, Southwestern University, Texas State University, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Texas Advanced Computing Center
