We are hiring an experienced Product Counsel to join our Legal team. As Product Counsel, you will work with multiple teams across the business including the product, engineering, marketing, compliance, and sales teams. You will develop a deep understanding of Toast’s products, strategies, and processes including AI-driven strategies and solutions in order to offer pragmatic legal advice and help the business  identify and mitigate potential legal risks.


A Day in the Life (Responsibilities) 

  • Working alongside and advising a variety of stakeholders across the product, engineering, and marketing teams throughout the product development lifecycle (i.e. from the initial stages of product development through launch, including the review of marketing strategies and assets). 
  • Providing practical advice to business stakeholders on a broad range of issues including regulatory compliance, consumer protection, intellectual property, artificial intelligence,  marketing, and privacy Counsel product and engineering teams on building and incorporating generative AI products into the Toast ecosystem.
  • Understanding and staying up-to-date on U.S. and international laws and regulations relating to the Toast platform, including the shifting global AI legal landscape.
  • Thinking creatively to navigate complex regulatory environments to ensure a smooth and compliant user experience.  
  • Helping build scalable and effective processes for providing legal input to business partners. 
  • Partnering collaboratively across multiple functions, exhibiting a deep understanding of how Toast products work and how their evolution is influenced by applicable laws and regulations. 

You'll Need to Thrive (Requirements)

  • A J.D. from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school, and membership in good standing to at least one state bar.
  • 5+ years of legal experience, in areas covering regulatory compliance, privacy, intellectual property, and consumer protection 
  • In-house legal department experience advising product, engineering and marketing teams on issues related to the development of new products, product enhancements and features requests; significant experience with marketing and product-related laws and regulations.
  • Experience working with fast paced technology, software or fintech companies. 
  • A solution-oriented, customer service, and growth mindset.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas in a succinct and impactful manner.
  • The ability to integrate into cross-functional teams with a cooperative and participatory approach.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions, if eligible), benefits, and equity (if eligible).

Pay Range
$175,000$220,000 USD
