About The Role

Hi, I'm Janel, and I lead design for Jane's Communications group. Before moving back to BC, I spent 14 years designing products in the UK and Australia. Now I live in a small town best known for mountain biking. In the evenings, you might find me on the trails, hosting beginner rides and encouraging more women to try the sport. One of my favourite parts of the week is seeing someone ride a feature or trail they never thought they could, with a big smile on their face. I even built a small app with Claude to help me choose our routes.
Communications keeps clinics and patients connected through Jane: these days, we're working on text messaging, secure messaging, and the staff notification centre. Our mission is to bridge care between visits. That might include a patient running a few minutes late or a follow-up question after an appointment. Each of those moments helps practitioners spend less time chasing messages and more time doing the work they love, which is as close as it gets to helping the helpers.
I love building teams that stay close to our customers, learn quickly through feedback, and form strong relationships with cross-functional partners. Our group is small and close-knit, and we care deeply about one another while holding ourselves to a high bar. Creating psychological safety is especially important to me. We also work closely with our product marketing and go-to-market partners, so you’ll get to see the full journey—from an early idea to bringing it to market. We’re currently moving text messaging from beta to general availability, which means plenty of exciting new work ahead.
That's where you come in. We're looking for a product designer who loves the craft of design—from thoughtful interaction details to adding delightful touches that make our work feel like Jane. You'll partner closely with developers and use our design system to create a more consistent experience across our product. You'll also take part in customer research and own work from start to finish, with plenty of mentorship and room to grow into a senior role.

The Impact You Could Have
  • Bring care and craft to the Communications experience by shaping the interactions, and introducing moments of delight that make messaging in Jane feel polished and human.

  • Own smaller projects end to end, from understanding the problem in a brief to shipping a polished improvement, with support from your product manager and design partners.

  • Improve consistency across our messaging surfaces by working within and championing Jane's design system, so familiar patterns make clinics feel at home wherever they are.

  • Partner closely with developers, pairing with them day to day so your designs come to life the way you meant them to.

  • Join customer research sessions and help turn what clinics tell us into sharper prototypes and better solutions, building your research skills along the way.

  • Build strong relationships with designers in neighbouring groups and with our go-to-market partners, connecting what we're building to the rest of Jane.

  • Champion pragmatic, responsible AI adoption in your design practice, using tools like Claude Code to prototype quickly and spend more of your time on the problems that matter most.

The Experience We Feel We Need
  • You've worked as a product designer in a commercial setting, ideally for at least 2 years, and you have shipped features to customers, no matter how small.

  • You understand how a product team works, including how design partners with product managers and developers and where it fits in the software development lifecycle.

  • You have a strong eye for interaction design and visual craft, and you enjoy getting the details right, like states, transitions, and microinteractions.

  • You're equally comfortable in Claude Code as well as Figma and understand how to work within a design system.

  • You have a bias to action, staying close to your team, anticipating what's coming, and picking up work without waiting for a ticket.

  • You're curious and confident enough to ask questions and speak up, even as the newest person in the room, and you welcome feedback with an open mind.

Compensation & Benefits

At Jane, we're committed to paying fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has an annual salary range of $92,000 to $138,000. While that is a large range, it is intentional. It reflects the full growth journey someone might take in the role, from developing skills early on to becoming highly proficient and ultimately achieving excellence.
Most new hires join at the accomplished stage, which for this role represents an annual salary of $109,300. A starting salary below this typically indicates a candidate with strong potential who is still developing key skills. Salaries above this usually apply to existing team members who have made a significant impact and bring deep Jane-specific knowledge.
We believe in paying for growth. You'll have regular career development conversations with your manager and your compensation will grow as you gain experience and contribute meaningfully to our mission.
