Role Overview

The Product Growth Manager will report to the Head of Product and serve as a product marketing specialist, focusing on product-market fit, competitive intelligence, and go-to-market strategy.

The person in this role will develop compelling narratives to drive sales enablement, manage product positioning and distribution channels, and craft go-to-market campaigns that resonate with FIs and their small business banking customers. This will be done in close partnership with sales, marketing, and customer teams, particularly in the US and UK.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on product marketing experience, combined with deep knowledge of the US banking landscape, preferably in small business banking. Acting as the voice of the market for the 9Spokes product, this role also translates northern-hemisphere market requirements back to the NZ-based product team.

Key Accountabilities

The following covers the Product Growth Manager’s key accountabilities; however, this is not an exhaustive list and the role will include additional responsibilities:

  • Lead the product contribution to sales cycles – join key prospect and customer meetings to run discovery, tell the product story, demo workflows, and confidently handle FI-specific objections.
  • Track FI market, regulatory and competitive trends – continually scan the landscape and distil what matters for our platform, feeding insights into product decisions and go-to-market plans.
  • Own the FI product narrative and positioning – craft clear, differentiated value propositions that translate features into bank-ready outcomes (risk reduction, control, efficiency, CX) in authentic “bank speak.”
  • Design FI-relevant solutions and use cases – package capabilities into coherent workflows and propositions tailored to different FI segments and personas (risk, ops, digital, IT).
  • Own core product sales enablement – work closely with the Content Marketing Specialist to create and maintain decks, battlecards, talk tracks, and other assets that keep the field aligned on positioning and differentiation.
  • Act as product subject-matter expert – understand the platform architecture and integration patterns at a conceptual level, quickly assess feasibility of asks, and translate market needs into structured requirements for the Product team.
  • Represent the roadmap externally and land new features – communicate the roadmap credibly to FIs and ensure releases are launched with FI-aligned messaging, use-cases, and supporting enablement.
  • Identify and shape strategic partnerships – map the surrounding vendor ecosystem, spot partnership opportunities, and evaluate candidates through a bank’s lens (value, risk, security, governance, operational fit).
  • Define joint propositions and co-GTM with partners – design integration concepts and joint value stories, and work with Marketing and partners to deliver campaigns and collateral for FI buyers.
  • Provide commercial and segment insight – contribute to pricing, packaging, deal phasing, and target segment choices, framing propositions in terms of ROI, cost avoidance, risk reduction, and strategic fit.
  • Contribute to product roadmap – collaborate closely with the NZ based product team, providing market and competitive intelligence, as well as prospect/customer feedback to inform future product iterations.
  • Bridge Product, Sales, Marketing and customers – align internal teams and FI stakeholders on goals, timelines and constraints, design phased approaches (pilots, limited scope) and manage the tension between internal pace and governed FI change.
  • Act as an internal FI evangelist and credible senior voice – raise organisational understanding of FI realities and best practice, influence priorities through data and insight, and show up as composed, well-informed and trustworthy in high-stakes forums.
  • Customer Focus
    • Participate in a company-wide culture of customer success.
    • Align with Marketing around re-enforcing the 9Spokes brand within the FinTech marketplace
    • Align with Product around driving product roadmap.
    • Align with Finance around measurement and forecasting.
    • Align with the Executive Team around key metrics and objectives.
    • Drive the company-wide definition of the ideal customer.
    • Create a company-wide customer feedback loop.
  • People
    • Develop strong internal relationships and collaborate with peers and colleagues.
    • Continuous feedback to the product team to improve and evolve our roadmap.
    • Strong engagement with the wider marketing team to coordinate activity and ensure the voice of the customer is heard and understood.

Qualifications, Key Skills, Experience, and Knowledge

The successful candidate must demonstrate experience and working knowledge across the following areas:

  • 3+ years of product marketing experience in the US Banking industry, including positioning, messaging, GTM launches, and sales enablement.
  • Proven track record developing ICPs, buyer personas, competitive positioning, and product-market fit narratives for software products.
  • Deep domain knowledge of the US Banking/Financial Institution industry required; small business banking experience strongly preferred.
  • Confidence demonstrating software products in Sales and Customer calls.
  • Experience building and executing go-to-market strategies across multiple channels, with a bias for long-term brand and pipeline growth.
  • Familiarity with the product development lifecycle; able to collaborate with product managers and translate market insights into actionable requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, spoken and understanding) and presentation skills, comfortable presenting and representing the 9Spokes brand.
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills, building rapport with all levels of seniority internally and externally.
  • Hands-on experience creating sales enablement materials (battlecards, pitch decks, talk tracks, case studies) and launching products to market with measurable results.
  • US Eastern Time zone preferred; Central Time zone considered.
