Job Description

The primary goal of the Product Owner role is to lead the development of the product. Your role has a greater understanding of the products’ technical components and inner workings. You will enable new capabilities that build upon the most innovative and intuitive platform in the industry. You will own the more technical parts of the product strategy and form close working relationships with development, engineering and infrastructure teams. It will require the ability to work among a wide array of stakeholders including sales engineering, delivery, partners, clients and users.

A key activity is to manage and make visible the product backlog by working from the prioritized list of requirements, which you share in ownership with the Product Manager. You will be responsible for leading the development efforts for your product. You should be the voice of the technical teams while also representing the customer in these efforts.

Product Owner Key Responsibilities:

  • Feature development: Translate the prioritized backlog of epics into well-defined features and user stories, always centering on understanding and solving core customer needs with a "What problem are we trying to solve?" philosophy. This involves close collaboration with engineering and quality assurance to ensure the developed solutions align with the product vision and direction. Crucially, you will define clear success criteria for testing and product acceptance, and strategically prioritize the delivery of high-value features while being mindful of development effort.

  • Manage the backlog: Maintaining a continuously prioritized list of items aligned with the strategic delivery plan. You will collaborate with the technical leads to apply t-shirt sizing to backlog items, ensuring that all user stories meet the Definition of Ready before development begins. A key aspect is to always ensure the development team has an adequate number of ready tasks to work on, while also strategically prioritizing the resolution of defects and bugs based on organizational objectives.

  • Iteration Planning: Ensure close collaboration with the development team, playing an active role in identifying and mitigating any impediments that could hinder the successful completion of Release or Sprint development. This includes participating in progress reviews throughout the sprint to confirm that development aligns with expected outcomes and proactively reduce the risk of late-found defects.

  • Release Planning:  You will take the lead in defining product release plans and setting clear expectations for the delivery of new functionalities, working closely with technical leads throughout the sprint lifecycle. This also involves actively tracking progress towards each release by creating and communicating comprehensive release metric reports as a regular part of each sprint cycle.

  • Enablement of Internal Teams: Define and execute a plan to educate and empower internal teams (e.g., Sales Engineering, Delivery, Support) on the new product capabilities and value proposition. This includes creating relevant training materials, conducting workshops, and ensuring they have the necessary knowledge to effectively position and support the product.

  • Cross-Functional Alignment and Communication: Establish clear communication channels and processes to ensure alignment across internal teams (e.g., Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales) regarding the product roadmap, release plans, and key messaging. This fosters a unified approach to the product's introduction and adoption within the organization.

  • Internal Feedback Loops and Advocacy: Implement mechanisms for gathering feedback from internal stakeholders on the product's usability, value, and potential improvements. This internal feedback loop can inform future iterations and ensure strong internal advocacy for the product's success.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software, Computer Science or Business Administration

  • 5+ years’ experience in successfully leading the development of technical products as a Product Owner, demonstrating an ability to bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementation

  • 3+ years of experience in mission critical or cloud software management and optimization.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships and effectively collaborate with engineering, development, and infrastructure teams throughout the product development lifecycle. This includes understanding their constraints and effectively advocating for product needs

  • Knowledge of agile software development practices

  • Ability to manage resources across distinct locations and time zones.

  • Strong management and project management skills for planning and executing complex projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across multiple audience types

  • Experience working in a fast-paced and goal-driven environment

  • Experience with AI/machine learning technologies is strongly preferred.

  • The following will be advantageous:

    • Experience with Data Ingestion and Processing: Prior experience working on products that involve the ingestion, processing, and management of large volumes of data, ideally from diverse sources.

    • Experience with Gateway Technologies and IoT: Familiarity with gateway technologies, IoT platforms, and the challenges associated with connecting and managing edge devices. Experience in defining and delivering solutions in this domain would be a significant advantage.

    • Experience with Telecommunications or Contact Center Technologies: Direct experience or a strong understanding of Call Handling Equipment, i3 ingestion (ideally via EsiNet or similar protocols), and the broader telecommunications or contact center ecosystem would be highly beneficial.

Required Behavioral Competencies

  • Customer-Centric Mindset - Deeply understands user needs and advocates for them in decision-making. Prioritizes features and enhancements that create the most value.

  • Strategic Thinking - Aligns product goals with business objectives. Balances long-term vision with short-term delivery.

  • Communication & Stakeholder Management - Clearly articulates requirements and priorities to developers, designers, and business leaders. Manages stakeholder expectations and negotiates priorities effectively.

  • Decision-Making & Accountability - Takes ownership of product backlog and delivery timelines. Makes data-driven decisions while balancing intuition and experience.

  • Adaptability & Resilience - Adjusts quickly to changing priorities or new information. Stays focused and solution-oriented in high-pressure situations.

  • Collaboration & Teamwork - Works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment. Encourages open discussions and respects diverse viewpoints.

  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Thinking - Breaks down complex challenges into actionable steps. Uses data and feedback loops to improve the product iteratively.

  • Empathy & Emotional Intelligence - Understands the perspectives of users, team members, and stakeholders. Navigates conflicts diplomatically and fosters a positive team culture.
