Valstad is building the machine that builds the ships.
We combine industrial robotics, welding, sensing, and AI to turn 3D models into real high-mix ship structure. Our mission is to rapidly expand America's maritime output by 100x.
Our team works directly with large industrial robots and real manufacturing equipment at our Austin facility. The systems we build will ultimately be deployed across shipyards and industrial facilities throughout the country.
The RoleValstad is seeking a full-stack product software engineer to build the applications connecting CAD models, manufacturing planning, robotic execution, and factory operations.
You will own features across interactive 3D interfaces, backend services, data models, APIs, and production infrastructure. The software you build will be used by engineers and operators to review manufacturing plans, manage revisions, release work, monitor robotic processes, and respond to production exceptions.
This role is ideal for an engineer who can move comfortably between product decisions, frontend implementation, backend architecture, and technical systems involving geometry and physical equipment.
Build full-stack applications for robotic manufacturing workflows.
Develop interactive 3D tools for viewing parts, welds, fixtures, robot paths, and production sequences.
Build backend services, APIs, data models, and asynchronous workflows.
Develop CAD-import, model-validation, and geometry-processing pipelines.
Create tools for reviewing and modifying manufacturing plans.
Build operator interfaces for execution, recovery, inspection, and production status.
Model revisions, approvals, traceability, and manufacturing state.
Connect product software with robotics, sensors, and factory systems.
Own features from user discovery through deployment and production support.
Work directly with engineers and operators on the factory floor.
4+ years of professional software-engineering experience.
Strong full-stack development experience across frontend, backend, databases, and APIs.
Strong TypeScript and React or comparable modern frontend-framework experience.
Experience building and operating complex production applications.
Experience designing backend systems, data models, and asynchronous services.
Strong product judgment and ability to simplify complex technical workflows.
Ability to independently own features from architecture through deployment.
Strong testing, debugging, and production-software discipline.
Ability to work closely with highly technical users.
Experience developing production software in Rust.
Experience with Three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, WebGL, or similar 3D technology.
Experience with CAD, computational geometry, graphics, or engineering software.
Experience building systems that interact with robotics, automation, or physical equipment.
Familiarity with PostgreSQL, event-driven architectures, and edge-connected applications.
Experience with STEP, glTF, STL, meshes, boundary representations, or geometry kernels.
Experience in manufacturing, industrial automation, aerospace, defense, or another physical-product environment.
We are especially interested in engineers who enjoy owning the complete product surface rather than working exclusively on either frontend or backend systems.
