About Sema

We are a software company that bridges the gap between technical and non-technical audiences to help deliver excellent software while respecting the craft of coding. Our first product, a Comprehensive Codebase Scans service, has analyzed >1600 companies worth over $1.6TN to help guide technologists, the C-Suite, and Boards of Directors on codebase health, making us the trusted standard for technical due diligence among major private equity firms and global consultancies. We are now building our next-generation product, an AI-native product roadmap agent - a SaaS platform that understands code & Jira to help keep product roadmaps on track.

About the Role

We are looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer who is deeply detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable working close to the product. This role is not about writing application code. Instead, it is about understanding how a product is supposed to work, validating that it actually does, and documenting everything clearly along the way.

You will be involved early in product and feature discussions—not to define product direction—but to fully understand expectations, workflows, and edge cases, so testing is accurate, relevant, and effective.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in product and feature discussions to clearly understand expected behavior, scope, and constraints
  • Design, document, and continuously improve QA processes and testing strategies
  • Create, execute, and maintain manual test cases (functional, regression, smoke, exploratory, edge-case testing)
  • Validate product behavior across real-world and failure scenarios
  • Document everything: test cases, test results, bugs, findings, and validation notes
  • Report bugs with clear reproduction steps, expected vs actual behavior, and supporting evidence
  • Track issues through resolution and validate fixes
  • Use QA and collaboration tools to manage test plans, bugs, and documentation
  • Use the terminal when needed (logs, environments, connectivity checks, basic debugging)
  • Partner closely with engineering and product to ensure quality before release
Required Skills & Experience (Must-Haves)
  • Strong background in manual QA and structured testing practices
  • Solid understanding of SDLC / STLC
  • Experience working in Agile environments
  • Proven ability to define and follow QA processes
  • Strong documentation skills
Experience writing and maintaining user-facing and internal documentation is required
  • Experience with bug tracking and test management tools (e.g. Jira, TestRail, or equivalent)
  • Comfortable using a terminal / command line
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Comfortable working closely with product and engineering teams
Nice to Have
  • Experience testing serverless or cloud-native applications
  • Familiarity with AWS-based systems (e.g. Lambda, API Gateway, S3, cloud workflows)
  • Comfort validating asynchronous workflows, background jobs, and event-driven systems
  • Experience validating data outputs, reports, or pipelines
  • Exposure to API testing concepts (tools like Postman are a plus, but not required)
What We’re Not Looking For
  • A QA role centered on writing application code
  • Someone detached from product context
  • A checkbox-style tester who executes steps without understanding intent
What Success Looks Like in This Role
  • Product expectations are clearly understood and consistently validated
  • Bugs are high-quality, actionable, and easy to reproduce
  • Maintain a Defect Removal Efficiency (DRE) of 80% or higher, ensuring the majority of defects are identified before reaching production
  • QA documentation is reliable, structured, and up to date
  • Engineering and product trust QA feedback
  • Releases feel controlled, predictable, and intentional

Benefits
  • Fully remote, flexible work schedule
  • English learning financial allowance
  • Office space financial allowance for comfortable remote work
  • Collaborative, flat organizational structure without bureaucracy
  • High-impact environment
  • Continuous learning environment and a lot of professional/career growth opportunities
  • Competitive salary
