React Native Developer (Senior)

Company Introduction

Turno is a leading platform focused on simplifying and automating the management of vacation rental turnovers. As an official Airbnb partner, we provide innovative solutions for hosts and cleaning teams, ensuring hassle-free management. We offer a collaborative culture, remote work flexibility, flexible hours, and benefits that prioritize the well-being of our team.

Job Overview

We are looking for a Senior React Native Developer to help us build and scale high-performance mobile applications for iOS and Android. The ideal candidate has deep experience shipping production apps with Expo, writes intuitive and responsive interfaces, works closely with backend, design, and product teams, and has a strong problem-solving mindset. You'll work in a modern codebase (Expo SDK 55, React Native 0.83, React 19, TypeScript) with AI-assisted development built into our daily workflow.

Responsibilities
  • Develop pixel-perfect, smooth UIs across both mobile platforms.

  • Work with native modules and config plugins for deep integrations (camera, location, push, audio/video calling, biometrics).

  • Diagnose and fix bugs and performance bottlenecks to ensure a seamless user experience.

  • Write and maintain automated tests (unit and end-to-end) to ensure product quality.

  • Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, MCP-based workflows) effectively and responsibly to accelerate delivery without sacrificing code quality.

  • Collaborate with the open-source community to help implement critical fixes when needed.

  • Maintain consistency in code and development practices throughout the project.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with solid knowledge of ES6+ and strong typing practices.

  • Strong knowledge of REST APIs, request modeling, and data management.

  • Experience with modern data-fetching and caching (e.g. React Query / SWR) and global state management (Redux, MobX, or Context).

  • Experience with smooth animation development (Reanimated / Gesture Handler) and complex state management.

  • Experience with automated testing libraries like Jest and React Native Testing Library, plus solid debugging skills.

  • Understanding of the programming differences between iOS and Android.

  • Ability to write performant and easy-to-understand JavaScript/TypeScript code.

  • Effective communication skills and experience with agile methodologies.

  • Use of current industry standards and best practices.

AI & Modern Workflow
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as part of the daily development loop.

  • Ability to prompt, review, and validate AI-generated code critically — treating AI as an accelerator, not a replacement for engineering judgment.

  • Familiarity with (or eagerness to learn) MCP servers and agentic workflows for tasks like code search, ticketing, and reviews.

Soft Skills
  • Clear and effective communication skills.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Adaptability and resilience under pressure.

  • Team spirit and collaboration with a focus on problem-solving.

Technical Skills
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience with React Native.

  • Strong understanding of Expo (managed/dev-client workflow, EAS Build & Update, config plugins) and its ecosystem.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the entire mobile app development lifecycle, including OTA updates and store releases.

  • Solid knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and responsive UI design (Flexbox, styled-components / React Native Paper).

  • Experience with third-party native libraries, offline storage, and debugging dependencies.

  • Experience with TypeScript, unit testing, end-to-end testing (e.g. Maestro), and debugging.

  • Nice to have: CI/CD with GitHub Actions, real-time features (Stream Chat / Video, WebRTC), analytics & feature flags (Segment, Statsig), and error monitoring (Sentry).
