Report Writer – Crystal Reports / SQL / SSRS
Position Summary
The Report Writer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting reports across the organization using reporting tools including Crystal Reports, Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
This role works closely with business users to understand reporting requirements and translate those needs into accurate, efficient, and user-friendly reports. The Report Writer will develop both simple and complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support operational and financial reporting needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with users and stakeholders to gather requirements, define reporting needs, and document report specifications
- Develop and maintain reports using Crystal Reports and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
- Write and optimize SQL queries, including complex joins, nested queries, subqueries, views, and stored procedures
- Validate and reconcile report data to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve report errors, performance issues, and data discrepancies
- Maintain existing reports and modify them as business needs evolve
- Follow company standards, processes, and documentation practices for report development
- Communicate findings and results clearly to users and assist with report usage when needed
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong experience with Crystal Reports
- Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
- Advanced SQL skills including complex queries, joins, subqueries, stored procedures, and views
- Experience creating and maintaining SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) reports
- Strong data analysis and troubleshooting skills
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas
- Understanding of the full report development lifecycle including design, development, testing, implementation, and support
- Ability to manage multiple requests, prioritize work, and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and documentation skills
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Construction or accounting industry experience
- Experience with Vista by Viewpoint
- Experience with pVault or other paperless document management systems
