ROLE:  FOX 5 San Diego/KUSI News duopoly is seeking a Reporter for our broadcast and digital platforms.  The successful applicant will have a proven ability to enterprise stories that connect with audiences across all devices and platforms.  The candidate needs to be highly driven, resourceful, and nimble.  A typical day could involve general assignment reporting with live shots or returning to station to host/produce live streaming news programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurate and balanced reporting of news stories following company standards for journalistic integrity and quality
  • Contributes daily to our digital platforms by writing web articles or producing/hosting programs for our CTV streaming app
  • Must be creative with how to present stories in ways that engage today’s audiences, tailoring content for different devices and platforms
  • Collaborates with photographer, producer, assignment desk on live shots as needed
  • Attends editorial meetings and regularly pitches original story ideas
  • Sets up, writes, pkgs to meet deadlines daily
  • Develops community contacts and a network of news sources
  • Attends station partnerships in community
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Video editing and livestreaming experience preferred

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must interact positively and productively with colleagues and the public
  • Upholds station values and models professionalism on and off the air
  • Exceptional writing, grammar and spelling
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to ad-lib at length when required
  • Strong on-air presentation – must be credible, personable and engaging
  • Flexible with schedule and willing to work additional hours or days or different shifts and holidays as required by news content
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to accept constructive direction and feedback
  • Compensation starting at $31/hour commensurate with experience and skill level.
