About SemiAnalysis

SemiAnalysis is an independent research and analysis firm specializing in the Semiconductor and AI industries. Our in-depth coverage spans the entire supply chain, from semiconductor fabrication processes to cutting-edge AI Models, software, and infrastructure. We are recognized as the leading authority on the semiconductor supply chain, with the highest concentration of industry experts within one team, and a deep-rooted passion for delving into the intricacies.

We’re a global team of over 50 analysts, each with extensive networks across the semiconductor supply chain and AI ecosystem, publishing industry shaping articles while participating in 40+ conferences annually.

Our newsletter reaches more than 200,000 subscribers worldwide, including senior management and c-suite leaders at the leading semiconductor and AI companies.

We also offer three core products:

  • Industry Models – we develop and publish industry models on accelerator shipments, datacentre demand and supply, GPU total cost of ownership, and more. We work with hyperscalers, neoclouds, many of the world’s largest hedge funds, and government agencies.

  • Core Research – our public equity markets product, geared towards financial investors, distils our deep technical research and knowledge into key insights on technology and product trends.

  • Consulting and Technical Due Diligence – We conduct custom research and project work to guide key strategic and investment decisions for the largest private equity funds, leading venture capital firms, companies across the AI ecosystem, and government agencies.

We are expanding this flagship product and are seeking a China-focused Research Analyst to translate deep technical and market insight into financial insight on China’s semiconductor and AI ecosystem for our institutional clients.

Responsibilities
  • Translate proprietary technical and supply-chain work from the SemiAnalysis team into quantitative and qualitative assessments of revenue, margins, TAM, and competitive positioning for China-based semiconductor and AI companies, as well as global companies exposed to China.

  • Publish concise, data-rich notes—including a weekly note—covering the most consequential China semiconductor, AI, and hardware supply-chain developments, policy shifts, and competitive dynamics.

  • Monitor earnings calls, regulatory filings, policy announcements, product launches, and industry events across China; surface key catalysts internally and to clients in near-real time.

  • Develop and maintain bottoms-up models for Chinese foundries, fabless chip designers, memory vendors, equipment suppliers, and AI hardware companies, incorporating local disclosures, channel checks, and policy constraints.

  • Partner with technologists to originate new research angles on China-specific architectures, manufacturing capabilities, localization efforts, export controls, and supply-chain substitution.

  • Engage investor-relations teams, industry executives, and ecosystem participants to deepen our understanding of individual companies and the broader China semiconductor and AI landscape.

  • Support clients via calls and the SemiAnalysis support portal, delivering timely, well-researched insight on China-related developments.

Requirements
  • 1–5 years of experience in equity research, investment banking, strategy consulting, or a semiconductor industry role, with direct exposure to China-focused research or companies.

  • Strong working understanding of the China semiconductor and AI hardware value chain, including foundry, fabless, memory, equipment, materials, and downstream AI applications.

  • Ability and willingness to dig into China-specific disclosures, policy documents, and industry data and translate them into defensible financial assumptions.

  • Exceptional written communication—clear, analytical, and grounded in data, even when source information is incomplete or opaque.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and defend bottoms-up models from limited or fragmented disclosures.

  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving news and policy environment, balancing speed with analytical rigor.

  • Collaborative mindset: you enjoy working closely with technologists and presenting nuanced views to sophisticated clients.

Growth Areas
  • Deepen expertise in China’s semiconductor ecosystem, including domestic substitution strategies, policy frameworks, and evolving competitive dynamics across the value chain.

  • Expand capabilities in interpreting China-specific disclosures, regulatory filings, and policy signals to build differentiated investment insights.

  • Strengthen financial modeling skills, particularly in bottom-up forecasting under uncertainty, scenario analysis, and policy-driven market dynamics.

  • Build cross-border perspective by linking China developments with global semiconductor, AI, and supply-chain implications.

  • Develop stronger primary research capabilities, including channel checks, expert calls, and direct engagement with ecosystem participants.

  • Enhance speed and precision in producing high-frequency, high-impact research outputs for institutional clients.

  • Progress toward a senior analyst or sector lead role with ownership over China coverage and direct influence on client investment decisions and research direction.
