Build and operate high-performance Rust services powering real-time Solana and EVM chain indexing, search, metadata pipelines, and WebSocket delivery. Develop async and concurrent systems, optimize PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and ClickHouse usage, maintain Rust-TypeScript interoperability, profile latency and resource usage, and mentor engineers while operating continuously under heavy load.

About Axiom

Axiom is building the future of retail trading. As more opportunities move onchain, our mission is to make discovering and trading assets fast, powerful, and intuitive.

Today, Axiom serves millions of users and facilitates more than $100M in daily trading volume. We are a small, fast-growing team based in Austin, with high ownership, urgency, and an obsession with exceptional products.

About the Role

Rust runs Axiom's critical path: real-time chain indexers, per-chain search engines, the image and metadata pipeline, and the sockets that push it all to users.

  • Build and operate the many Rust services behind the product, across 100k+ lines and growing

  • Index Solana and EVM chains in real time, where ten milliseconds is a product difference

  • Write async Rust with tokio, and the concurrent in-memory state that keeps reads off the database

  • Push Postgres, Redis, Kafka, and ClickHouse hard, and recognize when each is the wrong tool

  • Keep the Rust and TypeScript halves of the fleet in exact agreement on the wire

  • Profile what you ship and defend the numbers

  • Raise the engineering bar through strong judgment and mentorship

Minimum Qualifications

  • Production experience with async Rust and tokio

  • Fluency with ownership, lifetimes, and concurrency in real codebases

  • Excellent programming and debugging fundamentals

  • Experience with services that run continuously under load

  • Comfortable working with high ownership in a fast-moving environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Latency work: profiling, flamegraphs, allocation pressure, tail latency

  • Concurrent in-memory state — dashmap, arc-swap, or lock-free structures

  • Search and ranking systems

  • Experience doing high-throughput streaming ingest from gRPC, Geyser, Kafka/Redpanda

  • Experience developing systems with high throughput, bursty egress; especially for Websocket fanout to many clients

  • Solana or EVM internals, whether indexing or on-chain

  • Comfortable in TypeScript as well - much of the fleet is both

We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every qualification.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $320,000 - $465,000 USD

What you need to know about the Austin Tech Scene

Austin has a diverse and thriving tech ecosystem thanks to home-grown companies like Dell and major campuses for IBM, AMD and Apple. The state’s flagship university, the University of Texas at Austin, is known for its engineering school, and the city is known for its annual South by Southwest tech and media conference. Austin’s tech scene spans many verticals, but it’s particularly known for hardware, including semiconductors, as well as AI, biotechnology and cloud computing. And its food and music scene, low taxes and favorable climate has made the city a destination for tech workers from across the country.

Key Facts About Austin Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 180,500; 13.7% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Dell, IBM, AMD, Apple, Alphabet
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, hardware, cloud computing, software, healthtech
  • Funding Landscape: $4.5 billion in VC funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Live Oak Ventures, Austin Ventures, Hinge Capital, Gigafund, KdT Ventures, Next Coast Ventures, Silverton Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Texas, Southwestern University, Texas State University, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Texas Advanced Computing Center
