This is a remote position.

The SAT English Instructor is responsible for teaching and guiding students to excel in the English sections of the SAT, which include Reading, Writing, and Language. The instructor will develop lesson plans, provide personalized instruction, and help students build the skills necessary to achieve their highest potential scores. This role involves a deep understanding of the SAT exam structure, question types, and effective test-taking strategies.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Instruction and Tutoring:

    • Deliver engaging and interactive lessons that cover SAT Reading, Writing, and Language content.
    • Tutor students one-on-one or in small groups to address individual learning needs.
    • Provide clear explanations of complex grammar, syntax, and reading comprehension concepts.
    • Teach students how to analyze passages, identify main ideas, and evaluate arguments effectively.

  • Test Preparation:

    • Develop and administer practice exams to simulate the SAT testing environment.
    • Analyze students' practice test results to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
    • Teach test-taking strategies, such as time management, process of elimination, and intelligent guessing.
    • Provide feedback and strategies to improve students' essay writing (if applicable).

  • Curriculum Development:

    • Create and update lesson plans, materials, and resources tailored to SAT English preparation.
    • Stay current with changes to the SAT exam format and content.
    • Adapt teaching methods to cater to the learning styles and levels of different students.

  • Student Assessment:

    • Regularly assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
    • Offer constructive feedback to help students refine their skills and improve their scores.
    • Maintain records of student performance and communicate progress to parents or guardians.

  • Mentoring and Support:

    • Motivate and inspire students to achieve their academic goals.
    • Provide guidance on study habits, time management, and stress reduction techniques.
    • Address any academic concerns or challenges students may face during their preparation.


RequirementsPreferred Qualifications:
  1. Educational Background:

    • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
    • Master’s degree in a relevant field is highly preferred.
  2. Experience:

    • Proven experience teaching SAT English, particularly in an online setting.
    • A track record of helping students achieve significant score improvements on standardized tests like the SAT.
    • Experience with curriculum development, specifically for online test preparation courses.
  3. Certification:

    • Teaching certification is a plus but not mandatory.
    • Certifications related to test preparation (e.g., from recognized test prep organizations) are advantageous.
  4. Technological Proficiency:

    • Familiarity with online teaching platforms (e.g., Zoom).
    • Proficiency in using educational technology tools such as interactive whiteboards, online quizzes, and learning management systems (LMS).
    • Experience with content creation tools like video editing software, presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint), and online collaboration tools.
  5. Communication Skills:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in an online environment.
    • Ability to engage and motivate students virtually.
    • Proficiency in creating clear and concise written materials, such as lesson plans, study guides, and feedback reports.
  6. Adaptability:

    • Ability to adapt teaching methods to fit the virtual learning environment.
    • Experience with differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of online learners.
    • Flexibility to adjust lesson plans based on student feedback and performance.
  7. Assessment and Feedback:

    • Experience in providing timely and constructive feedback to students in a virtual setting.
    • Familiarity with online assessment tools and the ability to analyze student data to inform instruction.
  8. Familiarity with Online Resources:

    • Knowledge of online SAT practice platforms and resources (e.g., Khan Academy, College Board resources).
    • Ability to recommend and integrate these resources into lesson plans effectively.
  9. Time Management and Organization:

    • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple students, classes, and tasks in an online setting.
    • Ability to maintain consistent communication and follow-up with students and parents/guardians via email or other online communication tools.
  10. Student Engagement:

    • Experience in creating engaging, interactive, and student-centered lessons that work well in a virtual format.
    • Ability to build rapport with students and create a positive online learning environment.
