Purpose of Role
Responsible for serving as a centralized underwriting resource providing guidance and support to Loan Officers, AEs, partners, underwriters, underwriter support, processors, and Operations staff on complex loan scenarios. Evaluates unique or unfamiliar situations, identifies potential risks, and resolves issues prior to loan submission to ensure compliance with applicable guidelines and improve loan quality.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
- Responds to underwriting scenario inquiries within established service level agreements by researching applicable internal and external loan program guidelines.
- Maintains current knowledge of regulatory requirements, agency guidelines, investor overlays, and company policies and procedures.
- Analyzes loan scenarios to identify risks, dependencies, and potential impacts across the loan lifecycle.
- Reviews loan documentation including credit reports, income documentation, and appraisals to assess eligibility and risk factors.
- Determines borrower eligibility related to residency status, income types, credit profiles, non-borrowing spouses, and non-occupying co-borrowers.
- Applies analytical thinking to identify root causes of issues and develop compliant, practical solutions.
- Interprets and applies HUD guidelines including the FHA Financial Assessment Guide and HUD 4000.1, as well as Mortgagee Letters and CFRs.
- Provides guidance on proprietary reverse mortgage products, including HomeSafe.
- Performs preliminary reviews of trusts and powers of attorney for program compliance.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support underwriting-related projects and process improvements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications - Experience/Skills/Competencies
- Minimum 3 years of reverse mortgage or mortgage underwriting experience.
- Knowledge of mortgage underwriting guidelines, processes, and loan documentation.
- Familiarity with FHA/HUD guidelines, including Financial Assessment and HUD 4000.1.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret complex guidelines and apply them to unique scenarios.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines.
- Demonstrated adaptability and ability to respond to changing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Compensation
The base salary range for this position is ($80,300 - $133,700 ) inclusive of all geographical differences in the labor market. The base salary for the position will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s work location, skills, education, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members in determining any final offer.
