Position Summary:

The Information Technology (IT) Scrum Master (SM) is a key role responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of value within the IT organization. This role serves as a servant leader and coach for the Agile teams, facilitating team events and processes, coaching and supporting teams in delivering value.

The SM in Midstream IT teams will have persistent focus on relentless improvement for how MPC uses technology that enables our business. The SM will work closely with Midstream Product Owners and product teams. The role will provide daily guidance for the team to ensure alignment of goals and plans, relieving impediments, and most importantly holding teams accountable for delivering commitments and value.

The SM provides transparency to Midstream value delivery through open communication with and between Product Owners, delivery teams and other stakeholders. The SM will facilitate collaboration with other product teams, other portfolios, onsite teams, and non-product team members. The SM will ensure visibility of delivery progress, challenges, risks, and successes. The SM is responsible for supporting the organization's portfolios, products, programs, and structured work efforts whilst applying continuous improvement to advance portfolio maturity, increase predictability, and achieve Midstream and MPC goals.

The SM will advance the MPC agile journey by serving as a champion and change-lead for MPC agile transformation. The SM will coach, mentor and promote the use of agile principles, standards and best practices to teams. In the enterprise, the SM will collaborate and contribute to Agile process maturity through the Agile Community of Practice.

A successful candidate will possess exceptional communication skills with particular emphasis on facilitating discussions and driving for consensus, often among the highly diverse participants and interests. A successful candidate must be able to gain trust and build confidence with all team members and senior leadership to establish effective collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintains and improves Agile practices (Scrum or Kanban) for a team, creating optimal environments for development and collaboration.
  • Executes specific project or team schedules, tasks and resource requirements by coaching team members toward a positive relationship for optimal delivery.
  • Partners with Product Owner and other stakeholders to maintain transparent communications about delivery status and expectations. Facilitates or partners to facilitate team events.
  • Arranges project or Iteration planning, including setting goals and objectives, defining roles and developing detailed timelines.
  • Assists team in meeting governance, controls and best practices in Agile Delivery or DevSecOps . Ensures team adheres to standard practices in sprint/iteration planning and goal setting.
  • Assists with regular stakeholder communications to provide updates on work status, impediments and roadmaps.
  • Partners with Product Owners and others to ensure User Stories and Features are specific, thorough, and ready for implementation.
  • Applies and facilitates Agile methodologies, including iteration planning, refinements, retrospectives, and daily standups for a team.
  • Assists in developing Agile training materials and content, shadows in delivery of hands-on training and coaching of defined Agile practices to teams.
  • Assists with coaching Product Owners and others toward advanced Story and Feature development, including behavior-driven development concepts; story mapping, definitions of done and automation, as appropriate.
  • Identifies obstacles and impediments or enables the team to remove impediments. Seeks innovative ways to bring out more predictable planning outcomes and goal development in team settings.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems preferred, related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • Two (2) years of relevant scrum master experience required, experience as Agile Scrum Master highly preferred.
  • Scaled Agile Scrum Master certification highly preferred; or the ability to obtain the certification within one year of employment.
  • PMP Certification and Waterfall experience is preferred.
