JOB SUMMARY

Job Profile Summary

Responsible for driving commercial value through active management of natural gas transactions and market positions, with a focus on Texas markets. This role provides strategic insight, market expertise, and leadership to support business growth, optimize portfolio performance, and maintain strong client relationships. 

Role Focus 

This role is responsible for managing and optimizing a natural gas portfolio within West Texas (Permian) and/or North Texas markets. The position requires deep regional market knowledge, strong commercial instincts, and the ability to identify and execute opportunities based on market fundamentals, transportation dynamics, and customer needs. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Actively manage and optimize natural gas positions and transactions to enhance portfolio performance while maintaining appropriate risk discipline 

  • Identify and execute commercial opportunities across West Texas (Permian) and/or North Texas markets based on supply/demand fundamentals and evolving market conditions 

  • Maintain a strong understanding of regional pricing dynamics and demonstrate a fundamental grasp of basis relationships and market drivers 

  • Structure and negotiate gas supply, purchase, transportation, and related agreements with producers, marketers, and end-users 

  • Monitor and interpret key market fundamentals, including production trends, pipeline constraints, storage levels, and weather-driven demand 

  • Optimize the use of transportation, storage, and other commercial tools to support portfolio objectives 

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with producers, marketers, pipelines, and customers to identify and capture commercial opportunities 

  • Partner cross-functionally with scheduling, operations, engineering, legal, and contract administration to ensure accurate execution and alignment 

  • Support development of strategic business initiatives, including new market entry, infrastructure opportunities, and optimization projects 

  • Prepare and evaluate economic models and analyses to support commercial decision-making and investment opportunities  

  • Evaluate existing contracts and structures to identify opportunities for optimization and risk mitigation 

Education

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, engineering, business management, or related field (or equivalent experience) 

Work Experience

  • Direct experience in natural gas trading, marketing, or commercial activities within West Texas (Permian Basin) and/or North Texas markets strongly preferred 

  • Strong understanding of natural gas supply, transportation, storage, and sales activities 

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and structuring commercial agreements 

  • Experience developing and using economic models and market analysis tools 

  • Proven ability to analyze data and apply strong business acumen to decision-making 

  • Experience researching and interpreting contracts, agreements, and market information 

  • Strong communication and relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to: apply math, algebraic formulas, statistics, and economic models

  • Ability to: communicate and/or exchange information or instruction

  • Knowledge of: strategic dynamics across multiple business categories

  • Knowledge of: energy industry, market trends, and competitors
