Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant – Tax to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing general ledgers, preparing financial statements, conducting complex financial analysis, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting finance/accounting staff. Key responsibilities include month-end closings, year-end closings, managing accounts payable/receivable, supporting internal and external tax reporting, and preparing and/or reviewing tax returns. Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, along with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.), and accounting software, are essential for this role. 
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, tax returns, and other regulatory reports. 
  • General Ledger Management: Oversee and maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and fixed asset depreciation. 
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze financial reports, budget variances, cash flow, and expenditures to provide insights to management. 
  • Regulatory Reporting & Compliance: Support internal and external data collection, analysis, reporting, and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.  The analysis, actions, and reporting needed to meet state level compliance will be a core job function for this role.
  • Tax Compliance & Preparation: Analyze and ensure compliance with current tax laws, regulations, and ensure accurate filing of federal returns, state returns, local returns, estimated tax payments, and extensions.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and refine accounting systems, processes, policies, and internal controls to improve efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Intercompany & Interdepartmental collaboration: Work with affiliated companies, other departments, and legal, to gather information and provide tax guidance. 
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise, cross-train, and train finance staff, and accountants, assigning, supporting, and reviewing their work.

Education, Required Skills & Qualifications
  • College degree in accounting, finance, or another related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting or tax compliance experience
  • Experience leading a (finance, accounting, or tax) team
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables) and accounting software (like QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Enterprise, NetSuite, etc.). 
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze complex financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous accuracy in all financial record-keeping, and reporting with deadline tracking. 
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for liaising with management, other departments, staff, and vendors/auditors. 
  • Professional Knowledge: Expertise in accounting principles (such as GAAP or IFRS) and an in-depth understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations are essential.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Certified Public Accounting or related consulting experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA license) or other related licenses/certifications
  • Master’s degree in taxation (MST) or other related advanced degrees

Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to operate office equipment that requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination (such as a computer, keyboard, and mouse) while constantly viewing a monitor. 
  • Flexible with interruptions, extensive people contact and communication,  
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist. 
  • Must lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate weight (up to 25 lbs.).  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to exchange information effectively.
