The Senior Manager is responsible for overseeing monthly accounting and financial reporting for a diverse portfolio of nonprofit clients, including charitable organizations, religious entities, and membership organizations. This role extends beyond traditional oversight to deliver proactive, strategic guidance that supports financial compliance, operational effectiveness, and regulatory requirements unique to the industry.
In this capacity, the Senior Manager plays a critical leadership role in supervising, mentoring, and developing a high performing team of accounting professionals, fostering technical excellence, accountability, and continuous professional growth.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting or finance, demonstrated leadership capability, and a proven ability to deliver strategic advisory services. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build trusted client relationships and drive continuous improvement across service delivery.
Position Responsibilities:
- Oversee a portfolio of nonprofit clients, ensuring a high standard of client service and satisfaction
- Coordinate with team members to ensure the accurate and timely completion of weekly accounting activities, month‑end close processes, and financial reporting
- Review and approve month‑end and year‑end financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and client requirements
- Provide proactive, strategic advisory support related to budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to help clients achieve organizational objectives
- Serve as a subject matter expert for complex nonprofit accounting matters, providing guidance to both clients and internal team members
- Lead, mentor, and develop staff, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and consistency across client engagements
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and best practices to maintain the accuracy and integrity of client financial records
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, tax advisors, and other service providers, to support client needs
- Stay informed of emerging nonprofit trends and regulatory developments and apply relevant insights to client solutions and team operations
Qualifications:
- CPA or equivalent professional credential preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in an outsourced accounting or professional services environment
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, including grant compliance, net asset classifications and donor restrictions, and functional expense reporting
- Demonstrated success in business development and client relationship management
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, BILL, and Fathom preferred
- Ability to effectively collaborate with internal leadership, team members, clients, and external vendors
- Strong project management approach with the ability to manage multiple client engagements consistently
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet established deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
