Role Overview

I'm Dr. Marek Sirendi, Head of AI at Clarium! Since this role will work closely with me, rather than a generic job description, I thought I'd tell you exactly what I'm looking for.

As we continue scaling our AI capabilities, I'm looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Applied AI team. You'll collaborate with engineering, data, and product teams to build secure, scalable, and high-performance AI applications that improve healthcare supply chain operations with data-driven insights. This is an opportunity to have real impact, building systems that directly help healthcare providers work more efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop robust backend systems to integrate with proprietary LLM APIs

  • Take ownership of critical system components, from backend APIs to AI agent implementation

  • Design and develop scalable back-end services using Python and FastAPI

  • Collaborate with internal product managers and customers to align product development with real-world needs

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in building and deploying AI applications

  • Understanding of backend architecture principles and AI application design best practices

  • Experience working with RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services

  • Strong understanding of database technologies

  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Nice-to-Haves

  • Support infrastructure management using Kubernetes and Terraform

  • Prior experience at an early-stage startup

Skills and Tools You Will Use

Python, FastAPI, SQL, RESTful APIs

Nice to Know:

LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic), Kubernetes, Terraform

What Success Looks Like

At 1 Week:

Complete onboarding, meet the team, and understand our codebase architecture and AI systems.

At 1 Month:

Ship your first feature or improvement to our AI backend systems. Participate actively in sprint planning and code reviews.

At 3 Months:

Own a significant component of our AI infrastructure. Demonstrate impact through measurable improvements in system performance, reliability, or capability.

Hiring Manager Interview

Goal: Deeper understanding of team needs and your qualifications. 60-minute video interview with the hiring manager. You will get a general idea of topics in advance.

Technical Interview and Values Interview

Goal: Deep dive into your skills, knowledge, and problem solving. 1-hour technical exercise. This is a realistic interview with no abstract puzzles. We will send you information in advance and do a live exercise together. Screen sharing is expected.

Values Goal: Meet more of the team and understand what values are important to you. 60-minute video interview with 2 team members. We will provide guidance in advance.

CEO Interview

Goal: Spend 30 minutes getting to know our CEO to help decide if this is a great mutual fit for everyone involved.
