Role Summary

Cardlytics is looking for a Senior Counsel to join our small, nimble, fast-paced Legal and Compliance department, reporting to the Assistant General Counsel.  The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, wildly intelligent attorney who is also a practical thinker, unafraid to keep the “big picture” in mind.  They must be passionate about ensuring that Cardlytics has a world-class legal department that can protect the company, drive business forward, and get deals done – and done well.  A great attitude, an ability to think fast and change with the business, and an appetite for doing something you’ve never done before are required.

You will:

  • Support business units across the company, assisting stakeholders with a vast array of legal needs

  • Independently draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements with customers, vendors, and partners

  • Collaborate with customer-facing teams to facilitate high-volume sales activities

  • Help develop new and improved processes and procedures to ensure that Cardlytics’ Legal and Compliance department is efficient, organized, and world-class

  • Promote the Legal and Compliance Department’s vision across the company, ensuring that our legal obligations are met, and the company is protected in every facet

  • Use your legal brain to identify solutions to complex problems – going beyond pointing out that a problem exists

  • Help navigate rapidly developing data privacy legislation to ensure that company’s policies and procedures remain ahead of the curve

You are:

  • A skilled attorney with a strong background who can provide high-caliber legal advice to your internal clients on an as needed basis

  • A well-rounded legal professional who can wear multiple hats during the day (or the hour) and isn’t focused on sticking inside a predetermined box

  • A business-focused individual who wants to learn the nuances of the company inside and out, and who can use legal solutions to help the company grow

  • An effective communicator with an acute ability to explain sophisticated legal concepts to your colleagues across the organization

  • An approachable, people-oriented colleague who makes Cardlytians excited to include you – not let out a sigh when “Legal has to be involved

You have:

  • At least 3-5 years of legal experience. In-house, adtech, and privacy experience are all pluses

  • Comfort with and skill at sizing up a legal document and spotting the issues, whether a simple sales contract or a multi-million-dollar agreement that will change the trajectory of the company

  • A demonstrated ability to influence decisions at all levels and align stakeholders and teams on a common solution

  • Facility with complex business and technical concepts and consistently demonstrate good judgment when faced with difficult trade-offs

  • A track record of managing competing business needs and finding creative solutions that address concerns of all stakeholders

Technical Environment

We primarily use macOS and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides). While our preferred platform is macOS, we support both macOS and Windows. Familiarity with or willingness to work within this environment is required.

  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match, plan also includes a student loan debt repayment option

  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan

  • Educational assistance for continuing education

  • Lifestyle Spending Account for physical, emotional, and financial wellness (like gym memberships, home down payments, art classes, park passes, and more!)

  • Complimentary Calm app subscriptions to support employee mental health and wellbeing
