We believe local pizzerias deserve all the advantages of big chains — without compromising their independence. Slice puts technology, marketing, buying power, and support to work for independent pizzerias, empowering them to build profitable businesses and remain at the heart of our communities. Founded in 2010, Slice now partners with over 19,000 pizzerias across 3,000+ cities, forming the nation's largest network of independent pizza shops. With operations spanning the US and the Balkans, this is a rare moment to join a high-growth technology company that is genuinely changing the game for small business owners — and to grow your career alongside it.

The Challenge to Solve

Build a legal function that can keep pace with a company growing in every direction at once — new technology, new markets, new complexity. The reward: the kind of breadth, ownership, and impact that most attorneys don't get until much later in their careers, if at all.

The Role

Most senior counsel roles ask you to go deep in one lane. This isn't that role. At Slice, you'll work across commercial contracts, FinTech, artificial intelligence, employment law, IP strategy, litigation and product counseling — building real breadth across a global, fast-moving business and reporting directly to the Head of Legal.

For the right attorney, this is a career-defining opportunity: the chance to move beyond a narrow specialty, take genuine ownership across multiple practice areas, and grow into a global legal role as the company scales. You'll work in close partnership with the Head of Legal Operations, who owns the systems and infrastructure that support your work — so you can focus on the substance.

If you trained at a top firm and are ready to bring that rigor into an in-house environment where you can see the full picture of a business, we want to meet you.

Key focus areas include:

Commercial Contracting

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including vendor contracts, SaaS agreements, partnership deals, NDAs, and data processing agreements.
  • Develop and maintain contract templates and playbooks that enable the business to move quickly without sacrificing legal protection.
  • Advise business teams on contract risk, deal structure, and negotiation strategy.
  • Support Slice's payments and FinTech initiatives by advising on payment processing agreements, money transmission considerations, and financial services partnerships.

Employment Law

  • Support the People team on a broad range of employment matters across US and international jurisdictions, including the Balkans and United Kingdom.
  • Advise on hiring, terminations, leave policies, workplace investigations, and employment agreements.
  • Help build compliant employment frameworks as the company continues to grow its global headcount.
  • Advise on employment matters in facilities and warehouse environments, including workforce relations, union avoidance, and health and safety compliance.

Intellectual Property

  • Counsel the business on trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters as Slice expands its brand and product footprint.
  • Manage and coordinate IP filings and enforcement activity with outside counsel.
  • Identify and protect Slice's key IP assets as the company continues to innovate.

Product Counseling

  • Serve as a trusted legal partner to Product and Engineering teams, advising on privacy, data, regulatory compliance, and legal risk in product development.
  • Review new product features and initiatives to identify legal issues early and build solutions that support — rather than slow — the business.
  • Help shape Slice's approach to AI-related legal and regulatory considerations as the company deepens its use of technology.
  • Advise on regulatory and compliance considerations for Slice's payments and financial products, working closely with the payments team as the company expands its FinTech footprint.

Litigation & Disputes

  • Manage active litigation and dispute matters, directing outside counsel and keeping the Head of Legal informed on strategy and exposure.
  • Support pre-litigation risk assessment and early resolution efforts across commercial, employment, and IP disputes.

Corporate Governance & Transactions

  • Draft board resolutions, written consents, and governance documents in support of the Head of Legal.
  • Support M&A and transaction workstreams as they arise — drafting and negotiating transaction documents and supporting due diligence.

General

  • Work cross-functionally with Finance, HR, Sales, Operations, and Product as a go-to legal resource.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Legal Operations on contract workflows, outside counsel management, and legal infrastructure build-out.
  • Help build out legal policies and processes as the legal function matures.
  • Evaluate, adopt, and oversee AI-powered legal tools — assessing fit, risk, and vendor terms — and help build out Slice's internal AI infrastructure for the legal function.
  • Develop governance frameworks and internal policies for responsible AI use across the legal team, ensuring tools are deployed in a compliant, efficient, and scalable way.
The Team

The legal team at Slice punches above its weight — small, high-trust, and embedded across the business. You'll report to the Head of Legal and work directly with leaders across Finance, Product, Operations, and People as a genuine partner, not just a gatekeeper.

The Winning Recipe
  • JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in New York or another US jurisdiction.
  • 5–10 years of legal experience, with significant time at a top-tier law firm — BigLaw or highly regarded boutique.  Litigators and corporate lawyers both welcome to apply.
  • Interest in negotiating complex agreements without becoming a blocker.
  • Genuine curiosity across practice areas; you're as comfortable outside your lane as in it.
  • In-house experience at a technology company is strongly preferred — you understand the pace, the context, and what it means to be a business partner.
  • Comfort operating independently and making sound judgment calls without always having a senior attorney in the room.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — you're precise, clear, and know how to explain legal concepts to non-lawyers.
  • A self-starter mindset — you identify problems before they become fires, and you bring solutions, not just issues.
Nice to Have
  • Experience advising on employment matters in multiple jurisdictions, including internationally.
  • Exposure to IP prosecution, trademark portfolio management, or IP litigation.
  • Familiarity with privacy frameworks including GDPR and CCPA.
  • Prior experience in food tech, marketplace, or platform businesses.
  • Experience working with or counseling product and engineering teams directly.
  • Familiarity with payment processing, money transmission, or financial services regulatory frameworks.
The Extras

Working at Slice comes with a comprehensive set of benefits, but here are some of the unexpected highlights.

  • Flexible PTO
  • Market leading medical, vision and dental insurance
  • 401K matching up to 4% in the US
  • Personal development & wellness reimbursement/stipend
  • Weekly pizza stipend in the US (Yes, that’s a thing!)

Compensation

The base salary range for this role is $165,000 - $200,000 USD annually. This role is also eligible for equity and a competitive benefits package, including health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), and paid time off. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and location. Additional compensation and benefits may vary by location in accordance with applicable state and local law.

  • Application
  • 30-minute introductory meeting with Talent Acquisition
  • 30-minute Hiring Manager (Head of Legal) meeting
  • 1 or 2 x 30-minute meetings with business stakeholders
