About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Architect to join our Team Innovation, reporting to our SVP Learning & Technology. The Senior Data Architect is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable, secure, and reliable data infrastructure that powers American Global’s (AG) analytics, automation, and innovation initiatives.
This role will lead the development of cloud-based data pipelines, system integrations, and data models that support both internal operations and external client-facing analytics and portals. The role works in close partnership with external delivery vendors during active platform build phases, serving as AG’s primary technical counterpart, architecture reviewer, and knowledge transfer owner.
The Senior Data Architect serves as the technical bridge between system data sources and AG’s data platforms. The position also mentors junior team members, drives best practices, and ensures alignment between technical implementation and business objectives.
Ideal locations are near our Jericho, NY or Oakville, Canada offices. Position can be remote.

Key Responsibilities Include
Fundamentals
Serve as AG's primary technical counterpart during vendor-led delivery engagements: review architecture decisions, validate implementation against AG requirements, and own knowledge transfer to ensure internal capability is built, not just delivered.
Build and optimize cloud-based data pipelines, data lakes, data warehouses, and ETL frameworks using cloud-native tooling across major platforms (Azure, AWS, or equivalent); ability to evaluate, recommend, and work within the chosen platform as AG's architecture evolves.
Ensure system integrations are scalable, secure, and aligned with compliance standards.
Partner with Team Innovation and functional department leaders to establish data standards, governance, and documentation.
Implement version control, CI/CD, and data workflow automation practices.
Data
Design, build, and automate data models, ingestion pipelines, and transformation workflows across source systems and Medallion layers; own platform stability and schema evolution post-vendor engagement.
Implement monitoring processes for data quality, validation, and integrity across all platforms.
Design and build external client portal data layer: implement Row-Level Security (RLS) in Power BI, manage client-scoped semantic models, and support embedded analytics delivery to external stakeholders.
Design and enforce RBAC, data classification, and access control policies across all data layers using Azure Purview and Microsoft Entra ID; build and maintain Power BI semantic models and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders, including Row-Level Security for client-scoped data.
Operations
Partner with Data Engineer to guide day-to-day technical execution and ensure adherence to architecture principles.
Monitor and manage Azure cloud resource costs: right-size compute clusters, implement resource tagging, configure budget alerts, and report on consumption trends.
Collaborate with Business Systems Analyst to ensure operational data is accurate, labeled correctly, and accessible and connect operational system data into centralized data models.
Troubleshoot and optimize performance across APIs, integrations, and data warehouse environments.
