Job Responsibilities

  • Own assigned pipelines end-to-end across ingestion, transformations, and serving layers

  • Design for retries, backfills, and safe reprocessing with predictable recovery paths

  • Build/maintain scalable ELT/ETL jobs and patterns; ensure recoverability and safe rollback where applicable

  • Implement incident response patterns: alerting, triage, post-incident fixes, and preventive improvements

  • Establish and enforce branching strategy, PR/code reviews, and “no deploy without review” for critical assets

  • Implement/maintain CI/CD for data workloads, including environment promotion and release/change management

  • Ensure changes are traceable with documented approvals, rollback plans, and clear change notes

  • Define and enforce platform standards where needed (naming conventions, repo structure, documentation/runbook expectations)

  • Implement data quality tests (unit + integration) and anomaly checks for critical models and datasets

  • Enforce “no deploy without tests” for high-value pipelines/models; expand test coverage over time

  • Define and operationalize quality thresholds (freshness, completeness, accuracy proxies) with alerts and dashboards

  • Detect and manage schema drift and breaking changes proactively

  • Instrument monitoring/alerting for freshness, volume anomalies, schema drift, failed jobs, and cost spikes

  • Improve performance and cost efficiency through incremental models, partitioning/clustering, and workload tuning

  • Track reliability and operational KPIs with the Platform Lead (pipeline success %, SLA adherence, MTTR, defect escape rate, cost per workload)

  • Create and maintain runbooks, recovery procedures, dependency notes, and support handoff documentation

  • Automate common operations where possible (backfills, reprocessing, dependency management)

  • Ensure checks-and-balances via detailed documentation, peer review, and standard operating process adherence

  • Work closely with Analytics Engineering / BI to ensure reliable downstream consumption and predictable release timing

  • Partner with Platform Lead on standards, delivery cadence, and KPI reporting

  • Partner with Governance/Quality and Security/Compliance on controls, lineage, access/logging, and audit evidence

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience operating production data pipelines end-to-end (ingestion → transformation → serving)

  • Proven SDLC discipline in data environments (Git workflows, reviews, CI/CD, environment promotion, change/release)

  • Hands-on experience implementing data quality testing and measurable controls in production

  • Strong SQL plus a general-purpose language for data engineering (e.g., Python)

  • Experience with orchestration and transformation tooling (tool-agnostic; must be able to implement standards)

  • Monitoring/observability fundamentals (alerting, dashboards, on-call readiness, MTTR reduction)

  • Performance and cost optimization patterns for warehouse/data workloads

  • Ownership mindset: accountable for reliability outcomes, not just code delivery

  • Ships incremental value weekly; prefers small, low-risk releases over big-bang changes

  • Strong documentation habits and comfort enforcing process without bureaucracy

  • Collaborative team player with clear written communication; escalates early when blocked

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in regulated/audit-heavy environments; familiarity with audit evidence capture and control design

  • Experience implementing lineage/cataloging and governance workflows

  • FinOps mindset for warehouse cost optimization and usage controls
