What We Do

Wagmo is a new type of pet health company focused on empowering and inspiring responsible pet parenting through top-tier pet benefits provided by employers. From everyday care to rainy-day emergencies, we offer tech-enabled solutions that are optimized for value and flexibility so that our pet parents always feel confident that they are giving their pets the care they deserve.

What's Important To Us

We solve hard problems all day long but hang out with dogs while we do it. We value authenticity and efficiency and have no time for egos. We prioritize performance over pedigree, compensate fairly, and never take ourselves too seriously. Our values are core to who we are and how we operate. We talk about them all the time. These are not just things posted on a wall. We will interview for them, hold each other accountable to them, and make sure we work with every single person we interact with in a way that's consistent with these values.

About The Role

We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build and scale the data infrastructure that powers Wagmo's growth. You'll design and maintain robust pipelines, architect our data warehouse, and partner closely with Analytics, Finance, Product, Marketing, and Engineering to ensure clean, reliable data flows across the business. You bring hands-on expertise in Python, SQL, and modern data stack tooling, and you care as much about data quality and governance as you do about shipping fast.

You'll translate ambiguous business problems into durable technical solutions, mentor the next generation of data talent, and help us build the data foundation that will carry Wagmo from startup to scale.

Our Tech Stack: BigQuery · dbt · Fivetran · Python · GCP · GitHub · Tableau · Slack · Notion · Claude

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouse architecture (BigQuery). Own the infrastructure end-to-end and continuously evolve it as the business grows.

  • Define and implement data models and dbt transformations that are clean, well-tested, and built to last, with strong standards for CI/CD, code review, and documentation.

  • Ensure data quality and reliability across all systems through validation, monitoring, anomaly detection, and clear data contracts and lineage documentation.

  • Partner with Data Analytics, Finance, Product, Marketing, and Engineering to deliver the clean, accessible data they need to make decisions. Translate complex technical concepts clearly for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Lead projects from scoping to delivery, and raise the bar for the team's engineering practices.

What You'll Need To Be Successful

  • 5+ years in data engineering, ideally at a high-growth SaaS or consumer tech company, with a track record of owning production-grade pipelines and data warehouse solutions

  • Expertise in Python and SQL

  • Deep dbt experience on BigQuery (or similar)

  • Srong Git/CI/CD practices

  • Familiarity with GCP and orchestration tools like Airflow or Fivetran

  • Solid grasp of data warehousing fundamentals: dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT design, query optimization, and data quality frameworks

  • Strong understanding of building data models for AI (we use Claude)

  • Strong communicator who can lead projects, mentor teammates, and work cross-functionally without hand-holding

  • Autonomous and high-ownership; comfortable making calls under ambiguity in a fast-moving environment

Why Consider This Role?

  • Revolutionize the pet health industry by building the data infrastructure that improves the lives of pets and their families at scale

  • Join a rapidly growing, VC-backed startup where ownership, impact, and collaboration drive success

  • Work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment. This is not a traditional 9-to-5 job, but one that offers flexibility and autonomy in exchange for dedication and impact

Key Benefits

  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage

  • HSA/FSA

  • 401(k) retirement planning with employer matching

  • Unlimited paid time off

  • Annual company holidays

  • Additional company-wide recharge days off

  • 12 weeks parental leave for eligible employees

  • Company paid Wagmo pet wellness and insurance plans

  • Regular company-wide events and team gatherings
