Who We Are

At Trility Consulting®, we’ve built a strong, remote-work culture where people thrive, grow, and support each other – earning us Great Place to Work® Certification. Headquartered in Central Iowa, we embrace flexible schedules and collaboration across geographically distributed teams serving clients from all corners of the United States and globally.

We seek team members with the grit necessary to forge paths where none previously existed, to get back up when circumstances knock them down, to adapt to the changing needs of the client even when it is uncomfortable, and to deliver on our commitments. Candidates must respect and value people, recognize that over-communication is barely good enough, thrive on solving complex problems, have a passion for building teams, and know that delivering what a client actually values is more important than their own predispositions. They understand value proposition, love delivering value, and take pride in learning the expansive and ever-changing business of clients. Candidates are self-motivated and relentlessly working to become more today than they were yesterday.

What You Will Do

We are seeking a Senior DBT Consultant with strong SQL and DBT (Data Build Tool) expertise to transform existing data into reliable, analytics-ready datasets that power critical business and SLA reporting.

In this role, you will take an established data environment and refine, structure, and optimize it for reporting and long-term scalability. This is not a ground-up platform build — the data exists. Your focus will be on making it clean, structured, performant, and trusted.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on turning complex SQL into elegant, modular transformations and building scalable dbt models that other engineers can confidently maintain.

This is a remote 1099 position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain dbt models to transform raw data into analytics-ready datasets
  • Refactor and modularize existing dbt implementations, simplifying complex SQL into reusable, testable components
  • Implement and enforce dbt best practices, including folder structure, macros, seeds, incremental models, and environment promotion patterns
  • Design, build, and maintain Apache Airflow DAGs to orchestrate dbt transformations and manage end-to-end data pipeline dependencies.
  • Translate business reporting requirements into structured data models and transformation logic
  • Ensure data quality through dbt testing, documentation, lineage, and source freshness monitoring
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the data pipeline, from ingestion through transformation and reporting layers
  • Optimize SQL queries and dbt models for performance, maintainability, and scalability
  • Support reporting go-live efforts and contribute to long-term data support planning
  • Partner with internal teams for knowledge transfer, documentation, and integration alignment

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering or data consulting roles
  • Advanced SQL skills with demonstrated experience writing complex, performance-optimized queries
  • Strong hands-on experience with dbt in production environments
  • Experience refactoring and modularizing legacy SQL into maintainable transformation layers
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining Apache Airflow DAGs to orchestrate dbt transformations and data pipelines
  • Deep understanding of data modeling concepts, including staging, intermediate, and mart layer design
  • Experience implementing automated testing and data validation within dbt
  • Ability to work independently in established data environments and improve structure without full re-architecture
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate business reporting needs into data solutions

How We Put You First
