A Little About You

You are a senior designer with a strong point of view and the craft to back it up. You think in systems and execute with precision, whether you're building out the visual identity for a new video series, animating a show open, or designing a newsletter that makes complex financial information feel sharp and inviting. You possess an AI-forward mindset—viewing emerging technology as an opportunity to automate manual execution, elevate your strategic oversight, and focus on high-impact visual storytelling. You'll join a small, close-knit design team reporting to the Creative Director of Yahoo Finance, working alongside fellow designers and in daily partnership with our video, product, social, and editorial teams.

Responsibilities:

Branding and design execution:

  • Translate creative direction into strong, ownable visual identities for Yahoo Finance video series, newsletters, editorial columns, and recurring content franchises.

  • Execute across a range of formats with a consistent, confident design sensibility. Strong typography, layout, and visual hierarchy are the foundation of everything you make.

  • Contribute to and work within established style guides, templates, and design systems, helping ensure each format feels distinct while remaining cohesive within the Yahoo Finance brand.

  • Build and maintain templates in Figma and Adobe CC that support efficiency and consistency across the design and editorial teams.

  • Integrate approved generative AI design tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly, Figma AI) into daily branding and asset generation pipelines to accelerate conceptual design cycles and scale asset production.

Motion and video:

  • Animate and produce motion graphics for video series, show opens, and digital features, bringing brand identities to life in motion.

  • Contribute to templates and motion packages that support the video team's daily production needs.

  • Collaborate with the video team to ensure motion work feels polished, on-brand, and editorially appropriate.

  • Leverage AI  to reduce manual workflow loops and increase design iteration speed.

Collaboration and leadership:

  • Partner with the Creative Director and fellow designers on larger creative initiatives, contributing ideas and iterating quickly on feedback.

  • Work cross-functionally with video, product, social, and editorial teams to deliver design that's right for each platform and audience.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level designers, establishing best practices for prompt engineering, design validation, and ethical use of AI tools in daily production.

  • Break down complex creative briefs and business requirements into structured action items so that multiple designers and editors can collaborate seamlessly.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a visual, brand, or motion designer, preferably in an agency, media, or tech environment.

  • A strong professional portfolio demonstrating a high-level mastery of typography, layout, visual systems, and motion graphics.

  • Advanced expertise in standard design software including Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop).

  • Proven experience utilizing AI-assisted design features (such as Adobe Firefly and Figma AI) to streamline workflows, prototype ideas rapidly, and build complex layouts.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance in complex, fast-moving environments while leading small project phases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced editorial, digital news, or financial media publication.

  • Advanced knowledge of web motion standards, vector animation, and scalable design templates.

  • Demonstrated ability to validate, refine, and quality-check AI-generated visual outputs (e.g., fixing artifacting, maintaining strict brand voice, resolving stylistic inconsistencies) to meet professional publishing standards.

The compensation for this position ranges from $120,750.00 - $251,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
