Job Summary:

The Senior DevOps Engineer (AWS & SQL) designs, builds, and maintains secure, scalable cloud infrastructure supporting our mission-critical applications. This role combines deep AWS and SQL expertise with automation, monitoring, and compliance skills to ensure performance, reliability, and alignment with SOC 2 and CJIS standards. The engineer partners closely with Development, QA, and Infosec teams to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Job Description:

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer who’s passionate about building secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and loves knowing their work directly impacts the justice system in meaningful ways. You’ll join a tight-knit DevOps team that thrives on collaboration, trust, and technical excellence—a team that doesn’t walk away from a challenge until it’s solved.

You’ll be stepping into a high-impact role—partnering with a deeply experienced DevOps lead and two exceptional teammates—to own and evolve the AWS and SQL backbone of our hosted environments. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in complex, high-availability cloud ecosystems and is eager to help mature a SOC 2- and CJIS-compliant infrastructure supporting justice agencies across the U.S.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available AWS infrastructure supporting our mission-critical applications.

  • Manage SQL Server environments hosted on AWS RDS and EC2, optimizing performance, tuning queries, and ensuring data reliability and availability.

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub, Terraform, PowerShell, or your tool of choice) to automate build, test, and deployment workflows.

  • Collaborate closely with Development, QA, Product Management, and Information Security teams to ensure smooth, secure releases and stable environments.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot performance issues using tools like CloudWatch, DataDog, and SIEM dashboards, driving root-cause analysis and proactive prevention.

  • Contribute to security and compliance initiatives by adhering to SOC 2 and CJIS-aligned policies, managing IAM roles, patching systems, and safeguarding secrets.

  • Participate in incident response activities, assisting with mitigation, root-cause investigation, and long-term resolution.

  • Document infrastructure configurations, procedures, and architecture for operational continuity and knowledge sharing.

  • Support continuous improvement by proposing new automation, cost optimization, and resilience strategies across environments.

Security & Compliance Responsibilities
  • Enforce security best practices across infrastructure, including encryption, access control, and network segmentation.

  • Manage IAM policies using the principle of least privilege; review and update permissions regularly.

  • Secure CI/CD workflows, ensuring secrets and credentials are properly managed and stored.

  • Participate in the company’s Information Security / GRC Team, contributing to proactive vulnerability management, patching, and SOC 2 evidence collection.

  • Collaborate with the Infosec team to address vulnerabilities surfaced by Rapid7, Automox, CloudFlare, and other security tools.

  • Uphold our company’s formal security culture, operating with a mindset aligned to SOC 2 and CJIS compliance standards.

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps or cloud infrastructure roles, with deep expertise in AWS (RDS, EC2, VPC, VPN, ELB/NLB, IAM, Lambda, etc.).

  • Strong SQL Server administration and tuning skills, ideally in AWS-hosted environments.

  • Hands-on experience with Terraform (or similar IaC), CI/CD automation, and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).

  • Solid grasp of network architecture and security principles within cloud environments.

  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools such as CloudWatch, DataDog, and SIEM platforms.

  • Familiarity with patch management, vulnerability scanning, and compliance monitoring in regulated industries.

  • Proven ability to communicate clearly, collaborate across teams, and maintain composure under pressure.

  • A spirit of service, ownership, and accountability—you take pride in your work, your team, and your impact.

Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • Meaningful mission: The work you do every day supports agencies and organizations that keep communities safe and help people rebuild their lives.

  • Culture of trust and collaboration: You’ll join a DevOps team that operates like a family—tight-knit, all-in, and committed to each other’s success.

  • Security maturity journey: Be part of an organization actively evolving its SOC 2 and CJIS compliance posture, where your voice and expertise matter.

  • Growth without ceilings: As part of the Volaris and CSI family, you’ll have access to a vast global network of opportunities and professional development paths.

  • Innovation-friendly environment: We embrace AI and automation to make work more consistent, efficient, and repeatable.

  • Learning culture: Participate in monthly “JEDTalks!”—our internal knowledge-sharing sessions that spotlight creative ideas, technical breakthroughs, and personal growth.

Additional Details
  • This is a full-time, salaried position.

  • Participation in an on-call rotation may be required for rare after-hours emergencies.

  • Compensation commensurate with experience, plus performance-based bonus.
