NOTE: This is a hybrid position requiring 8 days per month at an approved Wolters Kluwer location.

As a Lead DevOps Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in architecting and implementing scalable, resilient infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines that support the full software development lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with Wolters Kluwer Product Teams to integrate DevOps best practices into agile development workflows, driving continuous integration, automated testing, and rapid deployment. Your work will directly impact system reliability, performance, and maintainability, ensuring our applications meet high standards of software quality and operational excellence. Partnering with application development teams, you will help bridge the gap between development and operations, enabling seamless delivery of microservices, containerized applications, and cloud-native solutions. You will also mentor a team of DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of engineering rigor, code-as-infrastructure, and continuous learning through peer reviews, technical workshops, and hands-on guidance

Responsibilities:

  • Engineer and automate scalable, secure Cloud Infrastructure in Azure and AWS using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins, applying software development best practices like modularization, version control, and testing.
  • Lead the engineering adoption of IaC across Service Operations and Delivery, mentoring teams on reusable code patterns, configuration management, and DevOps pipelines.
  • Design and implement modern compute architectures, including containerized and serverless solutions (AKS, EKS, Docker, Azure Functions), with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines as software products, ensuring robust testing, artifact management, and deployment orchestration across multiple environments.
  • Architect and support Cloud Native solutions, aligning with software engineering principles such as abstraction, decoupling, and observability.
  • Build observability into systems using telemetry, logging, and tracing to support proactive issue detection and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure infrastructure and automation solutions align with enterprise DevOps and Security engineering standards, contributing to architectural governance and compliance.
  • Mentor DevOps engineers with a focus on software craftsmanship, clean code, and continuous improvement.
  • Prototype and evaluate emerging technologies, applying engineering rigor to assess feasibility, performance, and integration potential.
  • Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles such as error budgets, SLIs/SLOs, capacity planning, and incident response to improve system reliability and reduce operational toil.
  • Contribute to architectural design and engineering standards for infrastructure and platform services.
  • Deploy and maintain critical applications, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and performance tuning.
  • Modernize legacy systems through re-architecture, refactoring, and cloud-native transformation strategies.
  • Identify and address engineering inefficiencies, proposing automation and architectural improvements.
  • Lead post-incident reviews, contributing to blameless root cause analysis and systemic fixes.
  • Promote knowledge sharing of automation and DevOps engineering practices across teams and departments.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, applying engineering discipline to improve alert quality, reduce noise, and automate remediation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Engineering and a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Minimum 8 years of software related experience required, with a mixture of Site Reliability, DevOps, or Release Engineering experience with Software Engineering experience in backend services, middleware or data systems
  • Strong background in software development, with experience in languages such as Python, .NET or Java.
  • Possess recent experience with Cloud infrastructure (Azure and AWS)
  • Proficient in Shell Scripting Languages (PowerShell & Bash).
  • Understanding of the core Azure/AWS services (PaaS, IaaS, SaaS).
  • Proficiency with automation and source configuration management tools such as Git
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins or Travis CI.
  • Able to clearly explain technical projects to diverse staff to gain their support.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Experience and deep commitment to the transformation to a DevOps culture focusing on continuous integration – full lifecycle of building, automated and performance testing, and automating deployment.
  • Experience building platforms for Observability and defining standard operating procedures
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and script automation of Windows and Linux

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience maintaining and deploying highly available, fault-tolerant cloud-native systems at scale using Infrastructure as Code automation and CI/CD pipelines
