Kevala is seeking a business leader to join its executive leadership team as the Senior Director of Customer Analytics, Methodologies, and Rate Design. The ideal candidate should be a passionate advocate for decarbonizing the grid and bring a depth of leadership experience in Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) based solutions enablement and advisory services. We are looking for a pragmatic and dedicated leader who resonates with our bold organizational culture while recognizing the complexity and sensitivity of managing client relationships.

What you will be doing

The Senior Director of Customer Solutions, Analytics, and Rate Design is responsible for identifying the resources required for the enablement of SaaS based services for client-defined projects and leading the team tasked with delivering those core products and services. This work includes building a team focused on helping large clients navigate complicated issues within and outside of their organizations related to managing the impacts of decarbonization of the electricity, mobility, and building sectors of the global economy, including building sector decarbonization impacts on the natural gas system.  

A successful candidate will work collaboratively across Kevala’s senior leadership team – in general but especially with Kevala’s Vice President of Professional and Advisory Services –  to build, resource and establish processes supporting an organization focused on collaboratively prioritizing and delivering product and service offerings based on Kevala’s strategic roadmap. Additionally, the candidate should have a deep understanding of customer requirements, and align the resources needed to bridge the gaps between product maturity and customer maturity. Much of this work will require collaborative team building efforts as the Customer Solutions team matures and expands. This is a senior director level position with frequent interactions with the CEO as well as the leadership and management levels of Kevala’s sales & business development, product & strategy, and platform & software teams.

  • Create and nurture buy-in for Kevala’s decarbonization vision and its position at the vanguard of thought leadership in the electricity, natural gas, and transportation ecosystems both internally and with key external partners.
  • Lead a team responsible for the design and implementation of analytics and methodologies using Excel, SQL queries, and/or Python scripts to support project delivery and product development, as well as the performance of exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, anomalies, and key insights in energy datasets, and ensure data accuracy through review and cleaning tasks.
  • Oversee the development of functional requirements, software specifications, and other written internal documentation to ensure software-based solutions are well-designed to meet customer needs, as specified in contracts and scopes of work.
  • Add value to the pre and post sales customer experience through implementation and onboarding, instituting change management, and product customization.
  • Scale the Customer Solutions team and make continuous improvement to delivery processes.
  • Coordinate staffing of project teams.
  • Develop of key performance indicators (KPIs) and other relevant metrics, in collaboration with the executive, sales, product, and engineering teams, to provide structure for how Kevala’s Customer Solutions business is planned, prioritized and measured.
  • Develop the core positioning and messaging for Customer Solutions products and services in collaboration with sales and marketing leadership.
  • Provide the voice of the customer in the design and development of SaaS offerings to enhance the customer’s experience with the product offerings.
  • Support business development and sales by providing consultative and advisory services to move customers through the sales funnel.
  • Be an expert with respect to the competitive landscape and the broad direction of energy markets and the energy transition.
  • Productize common service offerings and develop business cases for new service offerings.
  • Work collaboratively with the other members of the senior leadership team while managing a team of managers, subject matter experts, and technical leads.
  • Support the professional development of direct reports and other team members.
  • Participate in ambassadorial activities in support of Kevala’s mission via workshops, presentations, conference presentations, chairing conference sessions, speaking in regulatory and utility forums, and being interviewed by journalists (including on podcasts).

What you need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Data Analytics, Engineering or a related major is required.
  • Regarded as a subject matter expert in multiple energy utility domains (e.g., wholesale and retail electricity markets, energy utility regulatory processes, distributed energy resource technology, regulation, cost of service, rate design, grid integration. etc.).
  • Minimum of seven (7) years as a leader providing leadership and advisory services and delivering solutions to clients in the utility and regulatory markets.
  • Minimum of three (3) years technical management experience in building teams, managing direct reports, and fostering career development with highly skilled technical workers, with an emphasis on engineering and/or Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) teams and technical workers developing analytics and methodologies using Excel, SQL queries, and/or Python scripts.
  • Demonstrated leadership and resource management skills in a dynamic and high growth environment.
  • Direct work experience supporting service-based solutions and integration into highly secure client-based and cloud environments.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to build long-term collaborative relationships with clients and co-create solutions to address the client’s decarbonization goals.
  • Extensive experience in developing and maintaining “trusted advisor” relationships with clients.

The compensation for this opportunity includes a base salary range of $ 185,000 - $ 215,000, plus equity (stock options). This is our target compensation range and is subject to multiple factors, including level, experience, and location. As you go through our interview process, our recruiter will work with you to identify a competitive base salary within the proposed range and combine it with an equity package that reflects your excitement about joining Kevala.

This is a fully remote role which can be located anywhere within the United States. Please note that actual salaries may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, experience, and location.
