The Senior Electrical Engineer will design, implement, and optimize electrical systems in data centers, ensure compliance, manage projects, and lead teams.
CyrusOne seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer, Operations Engineering focused on Datacenter Operations who will play a critical role in setting standards for the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical systems and infrastructure supporting data centers. This position will ensure that systems such as power distribution, backup power (UPS/generators), grounding, and energy efficiency are optimized for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.Responsibilities:
- Design & Development: Lead the design and review of electrical systems for data center operations, including power distribution, emergency power systems, and electrical safety.
- Infrastructure Optimization: Oversee the optimization of electrical infrastructure to ensure high reliability, redundancy, and alignment with energy sustainability goals.
- Capacity Planning: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and implement scalable electrical systems that meet growing data center demands.
- Operational Support: Provide technical leadership in daily operations, troubleshooting electrical issues, implementing proactive solutions, oversight and guidance on the maintenance and operation of all critical systems supporting the CyrusOne Data Center Portfolio, assist in creation of SOP's, and drive the creation and adoption of regional standards and best practices.
- Energy Efficiency & Sustainability: Develop and promote initiatives to improve power usage effectiveness (PUE) and reduce the carbon footprint of electrical systems.
- Project Management: Manage large-scale electrical projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring timely delivery, cost control, and adherence to quality standards.
- Vendor Management: Work with suppliers and contractors to source electrical equipment and services, ensuring compliance with specifications and industry standards.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Lead a team of electrical engineers and collaborate with mechanical, civil, IT, and facilities teams to ensure integrated system performance.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all electrical systems comply with applicable codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA), safety regulations, and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 12+ years in electrical engineering, specifically in data centers, critical infrastructure, or facilities management.
- Project Management Skills: Proven experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects with budget and stakeholder oversight.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex electrical issues efficiently.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers.
- Sustainability Focus: Knowledge of energy-efficient technologies and sustainable electrical design practices for large-scale data centers.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Only United States citizens are eligible for this role.
- Travel: Able to manage 25% travel.
Education / Certifications:
- B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of electrical distribution systems, UPS, generators, switchgear, grounding, and monitoring systems in high-performance computing environments.
- Certifications (Preferred): PE license, LEED accreditation, or equivalent industry certifications.
